Farmers Buy Fine Stallion. Through the efforts of William Lansfleld, of Amity, Hod. C. L. Haw ley, I. J. White and G. E. McOrow, of McCoy, another floe breeding stallion has been purchased aod brought into the Willamette Valley. They have organized the McCoy German Coach Association and purchased from A. C. Ruby, the great horse Importer, a splendid German coach stallion, Brasig, valued at $3000. He is a fine black 1-year-old, 17 hands high, weighs 1400 pounds, and is in every respect an almost perfect horse. The introduction of such animals into Folk County is doing much to bring up the standard of horseflesh in this section. School Laws Will Soon Be Ready. From present indications it is prob able that the new and revised edition of the school laws of the state will be ready by May 15th. The school laws will be arranged in better shape than ever before. Each chapter will have a heading and the book will contain all the supreme court decisions to date as well as many of the important opinions of the attorney general. Four copies of these laws will be sent to every school district in the state and one copy has been provided for each member of the legislature. The revised edition will also contain a summary of each new law which was made by the last legislature. A Historical Newspaper. . J. H. Nies brought into this office yesterday a highly interesting histor ical relic, a copy of the Canton Weekly Kegister, published in Canton, Iili nois and dated November 5, 1881. The paper was published shortly after th opening of the Civil War and Is f u of interesting items, among which is a report of the retirement of General Winifleld Scott and an announcemeu that Secretary of State Seward had predicted that the war would not last more than three months. At the Star Theater. "In the Days of Witchcraft" at the Star Theater tonight. A story of that period in history when all unusual things were explained as witchcraft and innocent persons charged with the practice of the black art were subjected to terrible tortures and some times death by the misguided efforts of the authorities to overthrow the supposed practice. Other interesting scenes will be shown and illustrated songs will be given. Excellent music by the orchestra. Two Trains To Newport. Two trains daily in each direction are promised the Corvallis & Eastern this season to handle the travel to the Newport and Yuquina beaches. General Passenger Agent McMurray for the Harrlinan lines and his assist ant, John M. Scott, have returned from a trip over the line and they say such a good showing was made last Sum mer that equally good service will be put on this year. These additional facilities are expected to swell the travel to Newport. Moves to Marion County. W. I. Reynolds has purchased a fruit farm southwest of Salem, near Shaw, and, accompanied by Mrs. Reynolds and son, Willis, left yester day for his now home. He has decided to retire from school teaching and will devote all his time to fruit raising. J. 8.
