CIRCUIT COURT DOCKET
Judge Burnett'i Department of Circuit
Court Will Convene Monday,
December 7.
DALLAS, OREGON, Novembeb 24 1909,
The vay to build up Dallas is to pat
ronize Dallas people.
OUR NATION'S COMMUNION.
Thanksgiving day fa close at fjRDd
and before our next issue greets our
readers, will have already begun to
shrink back Into the mass of vari-col
ered yesterday that go to make up
the mosaic of history.
A day fn which to offer up thanks,
and it really seems that, even if we
had nothing else for which to be thank
ful, we might with perfect propriety
devote the entire day to a formal giv
ing of thanks to those shrewd old Pil
grim Fathers for their beniflcent wis
dom in establishing for us the custom
of Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving day comes like the
call of a church bell to attract the
attention of us busy Americans from
our frantic pursuit ami persistent
worship of the lesser deities of wealth,
ambition, luxury or other idols of an
even baser forging, and directs it, for
a'moment at least, fully and formally
to that basal Force which is the source
of all these lesser things whose bene
fit we enjoy. And it is thus that we
are restrained from drifting quite
away Into a modern and refine' system
of idolatry.
There is one day In the year when
every person in the United States can
Kneel before a common shrine, and,
whether on Thanksgiving day he
addresses his prayers in the name of
Allah, Jehovah, or any one of the
thousand names by which men desig
nate the Great Father of the Universe,
there is after all, one anthem the!
spirit of which Is common to all
human tongues and tho expression of
which is common to all human
hearts "Te Deuin luudainus."

BIG BUSINESS TRANSFER
Craven Brothers of Independence, Buy :
Hardware Establishment of
William Faull.
One of the largest business deals of
the present year in Dallas has been
consummated lo the transfer of the
Faull hardware store from the hands
of William Faull, who has for 22
years been sole proprietor of the estab'
lisbment, into the control of Messrs.
J. R. and J. M. Craven, of Indepen
dence, who will take charge of the
business as soon as the invoice of
stock can be completed.
Mr. Faull began business in Dallas.
June 1, 1886, in the old bank building,
with limited capital and a small stock
of goods and remaining in the same
business continuously up to the pres
ent time, developed his establishment
into one of the largest and best
equipped in Dallas.
In 1892 the growth of hia business
made it necessary for him to move
into new quarters and he erected the
brick building now occupied by the
main portion of bis store. Further
expansion became necessary In 1902
and warehouses were built in the rear
of the main building to accommodate
his rapidly growing lines of stock.
As Mr. Faull retires be is rated as tho
pioneer merchant of Dallas, there be
ing no others remaining in business,
who started at the same time Mr.
Faull did. The Dallas merchants of
today all belong to the "second gener
ation," so to speak.
Mr. Faull says that be intends to
retire permanently from active busi
ness life. He will continue to make
his home in Dallus however.
His successors, theCraven Brothers,
come from Independence with a high '
reputation for strict integrity and!
excellent business ability. Both have
had considerable previous experience
in their line and will no doubt con
tinue to develop the excellent business
that they have secured and maintain
their establishment among the front
ranks of the business houses of Dallas.

Aimough three of the players on the
oiil cliampionshin team of Innt vr
are not attending school this year and
me line-up Is almost now, the Dallas
aggregation has been showing ud
stroogly in practice and apparently
avanus aoout as good a show to carrv
off the pennant this year as it did at
the beginning of any of the previous
ueague seasons.
The team will be lined np Saturday
night as follows: forwards, IHoa and
Fenton; center, Simonton; guards.
Claud Shaw and Lew Baliautyne. The
team 0ensthe season with a stronger
organization than was hoped for
earlier la the year and. although it
win De somewhat crippled near the
middle of the season by the departure
of some of the) men oo the Eastern
tour with "The Oregon", It bids fair
to give the other league teams as hard
a fight for the pennant at ever bfore.
About sixty of the representative
citizens of Dallas attended the meeting
held in the Courthouse, Sunday after
noon for the purpose- of discussing
plans for the establishment of a
hospital in this city.
Mayor A. B. Muir presided over the
meeting and Dan P. Stouffer acted as
secretary pro tern. The Rev. H. J.
McDevitr, of Portland, In a brief
address outlined the importance of the
venture, the requirements forcurrying
it through and plans for the Immediate
beginning of the work.
The subject was generally discussed
by those present and it was Anally
decided to appoint a committee of
leading men to canvass the city and
n nd out the attitude of the people
toward the proposed improvement
might bo. I ather McDevitt had stated
in tils address that to assure the
establishment of the hosital it would
bo necessary for the citizens of Dallas
to advance at least $3000 aud during
tnelr canvass the members of the com
mittee will solicit subscriptions and
endeavor to find exactly what finan
cial help can be assured in case the
proposition Is to bo taken up and
carried through.
About $185 wa3 subscribed to the
proposed hospital fund by men in the
assembly, even before it adjourned,
ana It Is anticipated that the call for
assistance will meet with a liberal
response from tho progressive citizens
of Dallas.
Tho men who were finally chosen to
serve on the committee were: Mayor
A. 1J. Muir. Ed Bi i k Dr. R H
McCallon, E. N. Hall, Professor D. M

date for the next meeting has not
