an extended visit witb her cousin,
Mrs. Mary Byan, In Glendale, Cali
fornia. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Dunn returned
Wednesday from Alrlle where they
have been working during the hop
season.
Elmer Strayer will be employed in
the post office a part of the time each
day while he is attending school in
Dallas this year.
William Grant is reported to be crit
ically ill and has been confined to his
bed for tome time under almost con
stant medical care.
Professor I. M. Glen and family
have returned to their home in Eugene
after a summer's stay on the Veazie
farm near Dallas. -
Johnson Brothers will finish the
equipment of their oyster parlors this
week and expect to be ready for busi
ness about Ootober 1.

Both Local and Portland Talent To
Appear in Concert at Library
Entertainment.
The concert for the entertainment to
be given on the anniversary of the
founding of the Dallas Free Library
has been placed In the hands of Mr.
Ghormley, a representative of the
Wiley B. Allen Company, and the
numbers given below show well what
a musical treat he has prepared for
those who attend the banquet and con
cert. Miss Delta Watson, of Portland,
whose singing on several other occa
sions has delighted the people of
Dallas, will be present and will have
several numbers on the program.
The remainder of the musical enter
tainment will be . handled by local
talent

Mrs. Emma Belt went to Portland,
Wednesday morning, and will con
duct a lodging house in that city.
Mrs. H. L. Veazie, who spent the
summer on the Lyle farm near Dallas,
returned to her home in Portland
yesterday afternoon.
J. E. Miller, of Blckreall, will dis
pose of his property at that place and
move to the Lyle ranch north of Dal
las within a few weeks.
The sewer pipes for nearly all of the
mains which are to be laid this Fall
have been received and are being dis
tributed along the streets.
The fine" maple tree on Mill street
near the Townsend creamery was cut
down yesterday morning to make
room for the new cement sidewalk.
The new school building will be
completed and equipped this week and
everything placed in readiness for the

The more completed list of prize
awards at the Oregon State' Fair, in
yesterday's issue of the Salem States
man gives the following additions to
the partial list of prizes carried off by
exhibitors from Folk county, which
was published in our Tuesday's issue.
The publication of awards has been
much slower this year than in previous
years, only a portion of the prize Hats

next to impossible to secure a full
catalogue of the awards for a single

The roofing on the new Williams
building and the lath work on the
interior are nearly finished and the
building will be completed and ready
for occupancy during October.
O. B. Allen is rebuilding bis resi
dence in the south part of Dallas
whioh was recently destroyed by fire
and expects to have the new house
ready for ocoupancy within a short
time.

Mr, and Mrs. J. W. Caldwell will
move from Dallas to Perrydale about
October 1. Their son, Professor Cald

Engine Number 6, the new locomo
tive which has recently been purchased
by the Salem, Falls City & Western
Bailway Company for use on the Dal

months, writes greetings to all of his

Mrs. Virginia Smith received a very
painful Injury Wednesday afternoon
while attempting to move some pack
ing cases, her right arm being broken.
The fracture Is not of a serious nature
however, and she will soon regain
complete use of the injured arm.
Miss Grace D. Black was married to
Mr. Arthur M. Jones, of Salem, at the
borne of ber parents, Mr. and Mrs.
W. B. Black, of Bickreall, Tuesday
afternoon. The ceremony was per
formed by Dr. C. A. Mock, of Dallas. -
Mr. and Mrs. Jones will make their
home In Salem.
E. J. Arnold's merry-go-round,
whlchnas been installed on the vacant
lot west of the Woodman hall was
started Wednesday evening, to the
great delight of the younger genera
tion, and will be run every evening
until the close of the School Cbildrens'
Industrial Fair.
Colonel Cody, better known as
"Buffalo Bill," will be in Portland
today and tomorrow with his famous
Wild West Show and a number of the
young men of Dallas went to Portlaod
this morning to attend the big exhibi
tion of daring horsemanship, unerr
ing marksmanship and all the other
features that have made Colonel Cody
and bis company famous on two con
