POLK AT TBE STATE FAIR.
BeDtoo county's big Fair closed last
week with a bipger record cf success
In every line than ever before. Xow
It Is Folk county's turn, and if the
activity and zealousness of the com
mittee in charge counts for anything.
ber fair will also reach a recor J mark
over the two previous fairs.
Speaking of fairs, and "lest we for
get," next Monday marks tbe begin
ning of something bigger by about
40 degrees, than any county fair that
can possibly be arranged the 1908
Fair for tbe whole state of Oregon to
be held In Saloin from September 14 to
19.
Polk oounty owes it to herself to bo
as well represented as possible at this
big exposition of Oregon's resources.
Unfortunately she sends no represcn
tative Polk county exhibit as beyond
all question should have been done,
and it rests with individual exhibitors
alone to uphold her prestige among
other counties of Oregon. Individual
exhibitors, bowovor, have always
made good in the past as the title of
"The Blue Bibboo County" applied to
oid rout, testiiies, and we have no
reason to fuur that they will fail to
make good at tbe coming fair.
Nevertheless, Polk county should,
lo addition to the representation by
Individual exhibitors, have also a
collective exhibit which should be dis
tinctively the representation of all
Polk county. Hupported only by
individual exhibits she has time and
again made marvelous records at the
State Fair, and there is no reason why
he should not achieve even greater
things with the additional support of
a representative collective exhibit.

for the sake of argument, it would

The Instruction will be conducted on
the department plan and the teachers

mary, intermediate or advanced, with
out having to burden themselves with
the work in other departments with
which they are not concerned. The
full corps of Instructors has not been
completed, but the services of a num
ber of prominent educators have been
secured, and the full list will be com
pleted in a short time. The names of
those who have thus far promised to
be present as instructors are: Dr
H. U. Sheldon, of Eustene: It. F. Rob
Inson, Superintendent of Schools In
Multnomah county; Superintendent
J. M. Powers, of Salem ; State Super
intendent J. H. Ackerman ; President
E. D. Ressler, Miss Cornelia Marvin
Professor L. R. Traver, of Monmouth,
and President W. J. Kerr, of the Ore
gon Agricultural College.
The Renewal a Strain.
V acatlon is over. Again the school
bell rings at morning and at noon.
again with tens of thousands the
hardest kind of work has begun, the
renewal of which is a mental strain to
all except the most rugged. The little
girl that a few days agi had roses in
ner cheeks, and the little boy whose
lips wore then so red you would have
Insisted thut they had boon "kissed by
strawberries," have already h.st some
thing of the appearance of health
Now Is a time when many childreu
should be given a tonic which may
arrit iiiucu serious trouble, and we
know of no other so highly to be
recominended as Hood s Sarsapai Ilia,
which strengthens the nerves, perfects
digestion and assimilation, aud iiids
mental development by building up
tne whole system.
