PRUNE GROWERS ORGANIZE
Form Association To Regulate Price
and Insure Uniformity In Dry
ing and Packing.
DALLAS, OREGON, AUGUST 21, 1900.
The way to build up Dallas is to pat
ronize Dallas people.
Oregon Is making a Dame for her
self in ail departments of manly pur
suits. The Oregon troops especially
complimented at the encampment, the
Oregon men standing among the top
liDers in rifle shootiDg at Camp Perry,
and greater still, three of Oregon's
men breaking record in the Olympic
contests in London, Is a record that
any state might well be proud off.
Ira D. San key, the singing evan
gelist, died in Brooklyn, Friday,
August 14, and in the hour of b Ib
death there passed from this country
another of the great powerful forces
that bad been laboring for its up
building for 40 years. Yet like all
men whose lives have been devoted to
good and beneficent work, he leaves
behind blm an intangible monument,
more enduring than the proudest
marble shaft that might be erected to
murk his grave, and the sinking of
the melodies of "The Ninety and
Nine" and "When tho Mists Have
Rolled Away," among people of all
races throughout the whole circle of
the Christianized world is a fur more
lasting and fitting tribute to bis mom
ory than would be a mountain of
memorial wreaths.
An entirely new factor appeared in
the Willamette Valley prune market
yesterday, when the Northwest Asso
ciation wa9 formed for the purpose of
packing prunes this season
The new association includes some
of the largest growers of this section
of the valley. Its members declare it
will not join the packers' combine,
which was formed here some time
ago, and will be the only large pack
ing firm outside the Packers' Associa
tion. The new Growers' Association
has purchased the packing plant of
Lesselle Bros., at Albany, an 1 will
operate it The plant has a capacity
of 150 cars for the season. The capital
stock of the new concern is $10,000.
Among the growers who juined in
organizing the new concern are L M
Gilbert, of Bosedale; Enos Presnall,
of Salem ; S. P. Kimball and M. M.
Ellis, of Dallas ; A. L. West, and L. M.
Crozfer, of Bosedale. L. M. Gilbert,
was elected president, and Enos Pres
nall vice-president, and S. A. Lesseile ! Ct'JjnP,:
secretary ana manager.

In spite of tho fuct that men may
cast oil their coats In weather such
as we have been having during the
past week, and lounge a run ml In the
shade, feebly "fanning themselves,
yearning for cold drinks and gusping
faint maledictions upon the weather
prophet, the cllmuto, and everything
in general, there is this redeeming
feature about the hot weather in Ore
gonIt Is not a heat that prostrates or
kills. It may chase the mercury up
the tube until it gets dizzy as It nears
the 100 mark, and it may boil the un
offending fat man until he see ins to
melt and shrink down like a snow
Image, but while people collapse right

thermometer registers only a measloy

seldom do more than make us feel
temporarily uncomfortable.
Strong Company at Woodman Hall.
For the first time on the Pacific
Coast, H. Heard presents for the people j t
of Dallas that popular play. Why ,
Girls Go Wrong, strictly moral and J
refined. Postively theotily big sho- ir:p
coming thie summer season, the com- : LV:;'
pany is composed of the best of talent
obtainable anywhere, and the plays
are all up-to-date successes. Mr. J. H.
Hearde, owner and manager of the
company, has had years of experience.
Mr. Hearde is carrying an extra strong
company this season and among the
plays of the rep moire are the greatest
eastern successes. Why Girls Go
Wrong, A Bachelor's Botnance and
the Devil in Skirts. On its first ap
pearance in Dallas, ut the Woodman
Hall last night, the company scored a
well-merited success, its members
prov'n;? to be actors of more than the
average ability, and their production
of "Th Bachelors Romance" tonight
and "Why Girls Go Wrong" tomor
row night, will uo doubt be greeted by
large and appreciative audiences.
