Angeles Examiner during the past
two years, has purchased a 10-acre
apple farm from John Shaw. He will
spend the coming summer in Oregon,

this state. Mr. Kelty Is a nephew of
Mrs. J. L. Brown.

A Reliable Place to
MRS. J. R. MOORE DEAD
Passes Away After Brief Illness
of Pneumonia at Her Home
Near Oak Grove.
Nancy E. Moore, wife of J. R.
Moore, died at her home near Oak
Grove, Tuesday morning, after an
illness of a week's duration. The
cause of her death was pneumonia,
following a severe attack of iagrippe.
She would have been 63 years old
today had she lived. v
Mrs. Moore, nee Nancy E. McClin-
tock, was born in Clark County, Indi
ana, February 28, 1815, and moved
with her parents to Missouri in 1855.
She was married to J. R. Moore, June
19, 1860, moved with him to Oregon in
1875, and resided in this state until the
time of her death.
She was the mother of eleven child
ren, six of whom are living: Mrs.
F. M. Moore, Mrs. H. M. Edgar, Mrs.
J. S. Moore ; Fannie, William and Fred
Moore. Mrs. J. W. Edgar, of Oak
Grove, is. a sister of the deceased.
Mrs. Moore had 15 grandchildren and
one great-grandchild, ail of whom are
living.
The funeral was held yesterday in
the Baptist church at Rlckreall, and
many residents of that neighborhood
were present, as Mrs. Moore was
widely and favorably known and her
sad death is a source of universal
regret. " ,
Mrs. Frank Rowell has returned
from a visit among relatives in Seat
tle.

The renewed activity of the mills in
Falls City has been shown during the
past two weeks by the increasing num
ber of carloads of lumber bearing
the Falls Citv Company's shipping
card, that have passed through this
city on the way to the eastern markets.
Williams' Dixie Jubilee Singers, a
troupe consisting of a double quar
tette, composed of four men's and four
women's voices, will give the third of
their annual entertainments in the
Woodman Hall on Monday night,
March 2. under the auspices of the
Dallas Public 8chool. Tiokets are
alrenriv on sale at Belt & Cherrlng-
ton's drug store. The proceeds of the
entertainment will be usea to pur
chase books and supplies for the
school library.

sie Smith Are Made Husband
and Wife.
One of the pretty weddings of the
season was solemnized at the borne of
Mrs. Newton Smith, In West Salem,
aat Thursday evening, when her old
est daughter, Jessie, was raarrifl to
Mr. T. Warren Burch, of St. Johns,
Oregon. The Rev. Babcock, cf the
First Presbyterian Church of Salem,
was the officiating clergyman.
About forty guests were present to
witness the happy ceremony. The
bride was charmingly gowned in
white silk, and carried a boquet of
white carnations. The wedding march
from Lohengrin was played by Miss
Edith Burch. The parlors were pret
tily deoorated in white and green. At
the close of the ceremony, a delicious
wedding breakfast was served.
Mr. Burch is a member of one of
Polk county's prominent pioneer fam
ilies, being a son of Mr. and Mrs.
Jacob Burch, of Rlckreall. His bride
is a popular young woman of West
Salem, and has been one of Polk
county's most successful school teach
ers. Mr. and Mrs. Burch will be at
home to their friends in St. Johns
after March 1.

Cannery Company Buys Site.
At a meeting of the board of directors
of the Dallas Cannery Company held
yesterday morning, H. G. Campbell,
secretary and treasurer of the board,
was Instructed to purchase the' can
nery site offered by Kels Anderson. It
is located on the west side of Main
Street, south of the Will Howe prop
erty, and comprises about three lots.
Mr. Anderson has offered it to tbe
company for $350. Situated as it is,
near the railway, it affords an ideal
site for a cannery, offering the best
possible shipping facilities. G. W,
Myer, president of the company and
H. G. Campbell left this morning for
Springbrook to inspect the cannery at
that place. Next week they will make
a tour southward through tbe valley
and examine all of the larger canning
establishments before taking any
steps toward tbe Installing of the can
nery in Dallas.
, Will Struggle For Supremacy.
Multnomah Athletic Club defeated
the Portland Y. M. C. A., Tuesday
night, in a game of basketball played
on a neutral court, by a score of 25 to
15. That victory broke the tie between
tbe two teams and decided for Mult
nomah the championship of tbe North
Division of tbe Oregon Basketball
League. Dallas won tbe champion
ship in the South Division by defeat
ing Corvallis last Friday night, and
the struggle for supremacy in Oregon
lies between them and the strong five
from the famous Portland club. The
dates for the tryout games will be
fixed immediately. These contests
will probably be tbe hardest in the
present season, as both the contending
teams are exceptionally strong and
determined to win out at any cost.

absence on account of illness, and will
also relieve Tracy Savery os night

part of the basketball season Is over.
