Portland last Friday and Saturday, when more than one hundred pub lishers representing as many news papers of the state met and discussed subjects of interest and importance to the profecsion. Many counties of Ore gon, Folk among the number, were represented by every publisher In the county, and there were only two or three small counties not represented. The business sessions were held In the Woodman Hall at 11th and Wash ington streets, where every care had been taken to provide for the comfort of the visitors. President Woodward, of tho Newberg Graphic, proved an Ideal presiding officer, being fair In his rulings and demonstrating bis ability to expedite business. The success pf the meeting was also pro moted by the good work of Dr. Henry W. Coe, corresponding secre tary ; D. W, Bath, recording secretary, and Miss Frances Gottschall, treas urer. The principal business of the session was the effecting of a complete reor ganization of tho Association. The old constitution was abolished in Its entirety, and a new one adopted in its stead. Under the new system, the stat .III a . . I m . . win ix organized i.y counties, or groups of counties, and these miriyr associations will work under the juris diction of the state association. Uy this plan It Is hoped to secure the co-op eratlon of every publisher iu tho staU and to make the association an active fofco In the promotion of the printing business, by enabling its members to secure fair and reasonable profits on their labor and the capital Invested In thelrplants. No schedule of udver Using rates was adopted, or even sug gested, tho mutter of prices on adver tising and Job work being left entirely in tno nandM of the county nrgiutl.n lions. 1 lie assertion of n prominent Portland daily that tho publishers had combined to maintain n schedule of rotes to bo charged political candi dates was utterly without foundation. The committee appointed by Presi .i . , . tions wooufiiu to iievls.) a plan of reorganization anddrufta new cotistl- tutlon consisted of J. 8. Dellinger, of the Morning Astoilan ;C. H. Fisher, of the huge no Dally Guard; B. K. Ken nedy, or tho Baker City Evening Jierui.j; j. u. Hnyter, of the Polk County Observer, and Secretary H. W. Coe. Tho report of the committee nnd the new constitution submitted were adopted without a dissenting voice. Tho two days wero business diy,, rrom start to finish, tho only entertain ment feature being tho reception ten dered to the visitors by Dr. and Mrs. Coe q their beautiful new homo at tho corner of 2.th and Lovejoy streets. Tho reception was a brilliant soeiul gathering, beiug largely attended by mo visiung newspapermen, their wives, and residents or Portland. On Katurdayevenlng, a number of tho editors accepted tho invitation of the Portland Ad Club to attend a smoker and social sesslou at tho Hotel Leuox grill room, where a pleasant hour was spent with tho bright young pub licity promoters of tho iiose (,'lty. Theonicets of tho Kdltorl.il Associu tlon for the coming year are: J. s. The truetoes are V. Fisher, of the Kugeue Guard; G Ji' Small, or the Baker City Democrat; and C. I.. Ireland, or the Moro Obser ver.
