The way to build up Dallas is to pat
ronize Dallas people.
Farmers coming in from the country
say that the rain will be of incalculable
help to them. The month of dry
weather just ended kept the soil in
such a condition that It was impossible
to plow and seed, and thereby greatly
dolayed the Fall work.
All talk of a panic In these days of
prosperity Is idlo. Business in all
lines Is good, the country has been
blessed with bountiful crops, and there
is more money In the United States
today than over before. There will be
no panic. The people are too busy
and prosperous to indulge in such an
expensive luxury.
Threo years ago, aftor completing a
census of Dallas, the Ohhukveb said:
"The count shows that the town is
making a steady and healthy growth.
The day Is not far distant when it will
have a population of 2000 people."
The predicted growth has boon
realized, and further predictions are
In order. With the splendid start
alroady made, we venture the opinion
that the Government census of 1910
will give Dallas a population of 3000.
Five hundred people witnessed the
production of the breezy Western
drama, "The Cow Puncher," at Wood
man Hall, Wednesday night. Every
seat In the house was sold long before
the curtain rose, and those who came
in late had to content themselves with
standing room. The play was in the
hands of a capable company, and a
smooth performance was giveD, not
withstanding the fact that the players
were hampered by a small stago and a
lack of scenery. No blame can bo at
tached to the company for the poor
stage settings, however, as it curries a
large supply of scenery which could
not be used In the local theater.
"The Cow Puncher" is one of those
Western plays, written by an Eastern
playwright, that represents nothingto
be found in this or any other part of
the West. It is an impossible drama,
filled with impossible characters, who
are made to do impossible things It
is decidedly of the "meller-drammer"
sort one of those thrillers that work
a "10-20-30" city audience up to the
very highest degree of enthusiasm.
The villain is made to "unhand the
gyurl,"and "honah" and "virchoo'
receive thoir duo reward after a throe
hours pistol fight that leaves the
theater smelling like a Chineso joss
house.
The play is full of action, and there
is always enough doing to hold the
close attention of the audience, It
must bo said In justice to Manager
Mann that his company is superior to
those that usually tour the Inland
towns. It is a matter of regret that
tbo small stage made it impossible to
use the largo amount of scenery and
equipment necessary to make the play
a complete success.

conio over from Salem at difforent
times, to spend an eveningon the floor
of the Colosseum rink. The Audi
torium opened in Salem, Saturday,
and a party of a dozen has been
made up to drivo over from Dallas
tonight and repay tho calls of their
friends In that city.

I. O. O. F. cemetery. This stretch of
road has become a regular dumping
ground for tho garbage and rubbish
of the city and is in a shamefully
filthy condition. Old boxes, ash bar
rels, tin cans and piles of decayed
milt lino tho road on either side from
the top of tho hill to the cemetery. The
Supervisor should see that this high
way Is cleaned up and kept eloan.
