The referendum cases relating to
the University appropriation, the
official pass bill and the feeding of
the Multnomah county prisoners will
be heard by the Supreme Court,
August 7. These cases are on appeal
from the decision of Judge Galloway,
in the Marion circuit court on July 3,
when the petions were held to be
invalid, owing to non-compliance
with the provisions of the law.
C. A. Simonton received last week
from his brother, Willis, of Dallas,
Oregon, a small quanity of delicious
large cherries. Some of the cherries
measured 3 1-8 inches in circumference
and were by far the finest seen in Crest
line in a long time. Crestline, Ohio,
Advocate. The cherries sent Mr.
Simonton were raised by John Embree,
and were of the Waterhouse variety.
The evident good condition in which
they were received speaks well for
their keeping qualities.
T. S. Townsend, of Portland, who is
establishing a branch creamery in
Dallas, writes J. L. Brown that he
paid 29 cents for butter-fat, Wednes
day. Mr. Townsend says ha will be
glad to meet and become acquainted
with the farmers any time he is in
Dallas, and will be pleased to have
them call on him whenever they are
in Portland. Work on the creamery
building is being rushed by the car
penters and concrete workers. The
high price of butter-fat is causing
much rejoicing among the farmers,
andtheopeningof the Dallas cream
ery is anxiously awaited.

Everyone seems anxious to help the
School Fair. Liberal subscriptions
of money and prizes were received
from the Dallas merchants last week,
and a similar hearty reception was
given Superintendent Seymour when
he visited Falls City in the interest of
the exhibition, Tuesday. All the
money needed could have been
easily raised in Dallas, but as
the Fair is a county institution, the
committee decided that it would be
only proper to give every town and
community an opportunity to contrib
ute to it3 support. The friends of the
public schools, remembering the fine
exhibit of last year, are all anxious to
encourage the youngpeoplein making
a still better exhibit this year.
