pretty heavily this season, he having
already written contracts for 287,000
pounds of this year's crop. He also
owns a 100 acre hop yard which with
a reasonable crop will produce In the
neighborhood of 125,000 pounds,
which added to his contracted hops

eastern brewers In large lots when

The last legislature made a number
or changes in the game laws. The
beginning of the buck deer season is
now July 15; which is earlier than
heretofore.
The Dallas-Salem stage now arrives
in Dallas daily at 3 p. m., connecting
with the 3:20 passenger train for
Falls City; also connects with the

Professor Martin E. Robinson, who
successfully conducted the cantata,
"Belshazzar," in Dallas last spring,
will have charge of the musical pro
gram at the Ashland Chautauqua.

Dan P. Stouffer has purchased a
fine 15-horse-power Ford automobile.
It is a model N runabout, neat, trim,
and speedy, quite similar in appear

the Dallas agent for autos of this

The members of the Epworth League
gave a reception to Mr. and Mrs. Dee
Dunn, at the home of Warren Dunn,
Tuesday evening. The rooms and
tables were tastefully decorated with
a profusion of flowers and red crepe
paper. After a pleasant time, spent
with games and music, delicious
refreshments were served.
Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Fenton attended
the play "The American Citizen,"
given by the O. S. N. S. students in
Monmouth, Wednesday night. Mr.
Fenton will return to Monmouth today
to attend the meeting of the Board of
Regents. Mrs. Fenton and son, Carl,
and Miss Bertha Collins went to Port
land today for a short visit.
Judge J. E. Sibley, "a delegate to the
Woodman Head Camp session to be
held in Seattle in July, received a
telegram from Head Consul I. I.
Boak yesterday morning tendering
him a position on the Committee of
Rulings, Appeals and Pending
Claims. Judge Sibley will accept the
appointment. This is one of the
highly Important committees and it
will be necessary for it to meet at
least a week before the session begins
in order to dispose of the business
that has accumulated since the last
meeting of the Head Camp.
Use ol Explosives.
The firing of fire-crackers and other
explosives will be strictly forbidden in
the City of Dallas on July 4 until
after the parade. The firing of fire
crackers over six Inches in length will
be prohibited at all hours. The explo
sion of sky rockets and bombs in the
business district will also be forbidden
throughout the day.

The News says H. Fugitt will begin
at once the construction of a three
story hotel at, the north end of the
bridge in Falls City, The new hotel
will be under Mr. Fugitt's personal
management.
Lawrence Aldrioh was Injured yes
terday, while handling freight at the
depot, by a heavy casting falling
upon his leg. No bones were broken
and the bruise, though painful, is not
necessarily dangerous.
Prof. A. F. Bittner, formerly profes
sor of mathematics in Dallas College,
now holds a similar position in
Western Union College of LeMars,
Iowa.' His wife, Mrs. Cecil Bittner,
holds the chair of music at the same
place.
Miss Nellie Collins entertained a
few of her old schoolmates at an
informal tea, Wednesday afternoon.
A very pleasant time was spent In
reminiscences of school days enjoyed
