NEW YEAR GREETING.
The Observer greets its readers this
week as an eight-page, all home print
newspaper, in which form it will
appear regularly in future. In adopt
ing this form, the publisher has
chosen what he has always considered
the ideal size of a country newspaper.
The change has been contemplated for
several months, the advertising
patronage of the paperhaving reached
a mark where a four-page paper was
inadequate to the demands for space,
but it was only last week that we
were able to procure the material and
equipment necessary to enable us to
print the paper in its enlarged form.
It will be noticed that the Obsebver
now contains a little more than 50 per
cent more space than it did in its old
form, the exact proportion being 960
incnes to 616 inches. The new
arrangement will make it possible for
us to take care of our advertisers
better than ever before and still have
more room for news matter. With
the increased number of pages, it will
no longer be necessary to crowd a lot
of advertisements together on one
page, and we are in a position to give
all advertisements better position
than ever before.
The rush of work incident to the
holiday season, such as Christmas
job printing and the re-setting of all
mercantile ads, made it impossible f r
us to give this number of the paper
the attention it deserved, but we ex
pect to have everything working
smoothly within the next two weeks.
The growth of the Obsebveb sub
scription list this year has exceeded
that of any former year and has
enabled us to make the desired
changes and improvements. New
features and departments will be
added to the paper from time to time,
and it shall be our constant endeavor
to make each number of the Obsebveb
better than the preceding one.
With gratitude for all patronage
accorded us in the past, and with
pleasant anticipation of still better
things for the future, we wish our
readers, one and all, a Happy and
Prosperous New Year.
Mr. William McHardy and Mrs.
Bessie B. Kimball were united in
marriage Tuesday afternoon, County
Judge Cwd officiating. Theceremony
was performed at their handsome new
home on Levens street, recently com
pleted by Mr. McHardy. The bride
has many friends in Dallas and Falls
City, wnere she has resided since
coming to Oregon. Mr. McHardy is
prominently identified with the lumber
business and is the owner ot vaiuaoie
sawmill properties in Yamhill county.
Their many friends will wish taera a
long and happy married life.

Mr. Walter Sears and Miss Nelle
Ford were mairied at the home of the
bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William
Ford, at Bridgeport, on Tuesday, De
cember 25. Rev. C. H. Davis, of j
Dallas, was the oSciatingclergyman. j
The bride was handsomely attired in ;
white pa nam a, and carried a boquetj
of carnations. The parlor wasj
beautiful in its decorations of ivy and j
Oregon grape. The wedding march
was played by Miss Bertha Foster.
After congratulations, a fine wedding i
dinner was served. The young people i
received many handsome presents.
The bride is a member of one of i
Polk county's pioneer families and i
was a general favorite in her home j
community. Ine groom is a respected
young business man of Dallas, being
a member of the firm of Schneller & j
Sears. After a few days' visit in Port- j
land, the young couple will return to
Dallas to reside.
The wedding guests were: Mr. and
W. L. Frink, Mr. and Mrs. N. Chapin,
Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Lychywek of Che
halis. Wash., Mrs. Ivan Yancey,
Misses Rosa Southwell. Bertha Foster.

In political circles there is some
evidence of a desire to have a little
fun at the expense of Governor
Chamberlain. In the campaign of
1906 he claimed credit for the low state
tax levy of this year, the small amount
of revenue needed being due to the
holding up of an appropriation bill
by referendum petition. The Re
publican campaign managers asserted
that this was merely a putting-off of
the day of payment and that ultimately
the amount of the appropriation would
be paid. Such proves to be the case,
and the amount of money to be raised
for state purposes in 1907 will be
double that raised in 1906. The ques
tion now being asked is whether
Governor Chamberlain will assume
responsibility for the high levy of!
1907 as he assumed credit for the low
levy of 1906. Oregon Ian.

Painful Accident.
Glenn Siefarth, the youngest son of
Mr. and Mrs. George Siefarth, was
the victim of a painful accident while
hunting on his grandfather's farm at
Oakdale yesterday. In climbing over
a log, the triggers of the 'shotcun
caught and discharged the weapon.
