Stanley, was moved this week to the lot west of the Stafrin drugstore to make room for the new residence of H. L. Fenton. Mr. Fenton is getting the material for his house on the ground, and the carpenters will begin work immediately. The Knapp oak sawmill in South Dallas has a big lot of oak lumber on the yard awaiting shipment. The mill is cutting on orders, and is being operated to its full capacity. It is re ported that with the completion of the extension of the Dallas and Falls pity railroad into the big timber of the Coast Range, the mill will be en larged and will cut fir on a large scale. Rich, in Dallas. He is a millwright and carpenter Dy occupation, and has assisted in installing some of the largest milling plants in the North west, Mr. King may decide to locate in Oregon. Forest Burer, until recently a resi dent of Dallas, was drowned in the Santiam river, Monday, while assist ing in driving sawlogs. He had been in the employ of a sawmill company since leaving Dallas. The funeral services were held at Marion yesterday afternoon, aud were conducted by Rev. D. M. Metzger, of this city. C. H. Morris, owner of the Dallas Mutual Telephone Switchboard, says that orders for mutual phones are pouring in from business houses and residences faster than he can supply the instruments. His linemen are putting up heavy poles and additional wires and are extending the system to all parts of town. The business of the Pacific States company is also growing steadily, aud there are few business houses in Dallas that are not supplied with one or both phones. The young people of the Christian church will give a hay-rack party this evening. They will leave the Belt & Cherrington drugstore corner at 8 o'clock, and will drive to the pleasant farm home of Mr. and Mrs Cass Gibson, near Rickreall, where they will be entertained with music and refreshments. The drive home will be made shortly before midnight. A merry time is anticipated. Miss Nellie Collins and her sister, Miss Ora Collins, arrived in Dallas from Madison, South Dakota, Mon day, to spend the summer vacation at the home of their parents, J udge and Mrs. J. L. Collins. Miss Nellie has been a teacher in the South Dakota State Normal School for many years, and her sister is a student of that Institution.
