DALLAS WATER FILTERED
Contractor M. V. Oates Tells of Suc
cessful Experiment in Keep
ing Intake Clear.
II. V. Gates, of Hillsboro, owner
of water plants and electric power
plants in different Oregon cities, is
a guest at tlie Perkins, having
arrived from Dallas, where he is
finishing his new water system,
preparatory to turning it over to
the city, says the Portland Journal.
"The plant at Dallas is us good
is can be found anywhere," said
Mr. Gates, "and starts off with 150
subscribers. With this excellent
beginning, I have reason to believe
that in a short time practically
every family and every building in
town will be using the water.
"Dallas' water supply comes
from a mountain stream six mil a
mm town. It is conducted on the
gravity system. In quality the
water is as good as that in Port-
ami, which means that it is as
good as can be found anywhere.
Repeated tests show that it is
absolutely pure.
"An important experiment made
by me in connection with this sys
tem has proved a complete success
at Dallas alter a test of three
months, and may bo adopted by
the city of Portland. In this city
there is always more or less trouble
in keeping the intakes clean. In
fact, cleaning intakes requires the
work of men at the Portland water
lant nil the time. At Dallas I
introduced what is practically a
filter bed near the source of supply,
and the intake pipes and netting
ure almost as clean as the day they
were placed, although the water
las been running through three
months. It is my intent ion to im
mediately introduce the new sys
tem at my Elgin water plant.
"In Dallas the plant established
will meet the needs of a town or
5,000 people which means that
Dallas is well cared for in the way
of water supply for years to come."
Mr. Gates is well known in
'ortland, having been in the rail
road business in tho city for many
years, lie now calls iiiiisooro ms
lonie, but most of his time is spent

Hearts
Are due to Indigestion. Ninety-nine of every
one hundred people wno nave heart trouble
can remember when ft was simple Indiges
tion. It Is a scientific fact that all cases ol
heart disease, not organic, are not only
traceable to, but re the direct result of Indi
gestion. All food taken Into the stomach
Which fails of perfect digestion ferments and
swells the stomach, puffing It up against the
heart. This interferes with the action ol
the heart, and In the course of time that
delicate but vital organ becomes diseased.
