Fisher, of Monmouth. T. B. Williams, the old Democratic war horse, jovial and pleasant as ever, was greeting his many friends in Dallas, Tuesday. He says there is not much doing in politics up his way as yet. He does not believe that Cleve land will bo a candidate for the Presi dential nomination ; thinks Hearst stands no chance, and is of the opinion that either Parker or McClelland will be the man. Dashieli and family left on Wednesday for their new home in Stevens county, Washington. H . G. Campbell made a business trip to McMinnville, Carlton and other points north, this week. He says Dallas is livelier than any town he visited. Mrs. C. H. Morris went to Portland Wednesday to attend at the beside of her brother, W. C. Superior to all others. Let us show you. Guy Bros. County Assessor F. E. Myer sent his deputies into the field this week to begin the 1904 assessment. Mr. Myer will look after the office work and assess the three Dallas precincts. K. C. Eldridge, proprietor of the Independence creamery and also of the Jefferson creamery has purchased the creamery at Dayton, and expects to place it in operation along the same lines as the other plauts which he owns are run. The Secretary of the Interior has re ected the applications of James W. Waters, Robert Osborn, Charles H. Kelly, Charles E. Dant, S. G. Reetz and H. E. Austen to purchase timber lands in the Oregon City land district, because of conflict with the prior se lection of the respective tracts by the State of Oregon as school indemnity. The executive committee of the Falls City, Dallas and Lewisville Telephone Company met Wednesday and let a contract for the digging of the holes for the telephone poles. Five thousand pounds of wire were bought for use between Dallas and Falls City. The wire for the Lewisville line is already on the ground. The line will be com pleted next week. Elmer West has moved his livery stock to the White Front barn and has arranged everything in first-class or der for carrying on his business. He desires to thank the people of Dallas for their liberal patronage in the past, and to solicit their further business when they are in need of a first-class livery turnout. It was Dallas against Dallas at the College gymnasium Wednesday eve ning when tho college basket-ball team defeated the Rock Crushers by a score of 19 to 6. This event was ad vertised as the last appearance of the 'Old Five" and the town boys gave the college champions a harder game than hasbeen put up by several visit- ng teamsthis winter. He finds 530 children of school age this year, as against 505 last year. The news of the defeat of tho Simon faction in the Multnomah county primaries occasioned little interest in Polk county, as it was generally be. lieved that the Mitchell forces would win. The fight in Portland has not figured in country politics to auy giwit extent, eonwiwntly little com ment is heard on the result one way or the other. The eighth annual convention of the Eugene district Epworth League will be held in the M.E. Church in Dallas, March 25-27. The Dallas delegates are Mrs. G. L. Hawkins, Miss Ednelle Collins, Miss Nora Robertson, Arthur Wilson and C. L. Starr. The new hose ctn't ami tM'i left "f hose, recently ordered by the city council, have arrived and are stored away in the City Hall. The council desires to place one cart in the business part of town, and it is hoped that property owners will furnish a build ing free of charge to the city. It would mean much to a merchant to have the aparatus close at band in case of a fire, and the city hopes the business men will consider this point and furnish a suitable building with out charge. Connection between the conduit and tho city water mains was made Wednesday afternoon, and Canyon Creek water is now flowing under the streets of Dallas. Contractor Gates opened several hydrants yesterday afternoon to let the air out of the pipes and the water poured out with a rush that drowned all other noise on the streets. When the mains are freed from air.the pressurewlll be immense. The water is as clear as crystal, not withstanding the fact that it has rained steadily in the mountains for the last six weeks. Work on the re servoir will begin as soon as the weather will permit. Meanwhile, the city will have good fire protection from the water flowing into the mains from the six-inch conduit. Ford gave a de lightful flinch party at their home in Falls City, Monday evening, in honor of the 27th birthday of Gilbert Tyson and J. C. Talbott. A dainty lunch was served after the games.
