PERRYDALE BOYS BASKETBALL
Pirates rally late to beat Dufur
By Lukas Eggen
The Itemizer-Observer
DUFUR — Down by nine
with 2 minutes, 25 seconds
left in the game on Saturday,
Perrydale boys basketball
coach Brian Domes thought
the Pirates were about to go
home with a sour taste in
their mouths.
“It was going to be a long
bus ride home,” Domes said.
Dufur’s athleticism had
given Perrydale trouble all
game.
Domes told his players it
was time to put in the full-
court press.
“That was something I’ve
never really witnessed as a
coach,” Domes said.
The Pirates began forcing
turnover after turnover and
taking advantage of the scor-
ing chances, capped off by a
Cooper Butler basket with
1:15 remaining in the game
to put Perrydale up 49-48.
Neither team would score
Domes
and the Pi-
rates es-
caped with
a victory.
“It sure
made the
bus ride
home more
f u n , ”
D o m e s
said.
Butler finished the game
with 20 points and 10 re-
bounds.
Perrydale also defeated
Klickitat 68-49 on Friday.
David Domes had 16 points
and eight rebounds to lead
the Pirates.
Perrydale played Country
Christian Tuesday after press
time and plays at Days Creek
Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
“Days Creek will be chal-
lenging,” Brian Domes said.
“They are very athletic. They
can be a little out of control
sometimes, and that can get
you out of your gameplan.
We’ll see how that plays out.”

Barcroft (126), and Nicholas
Nelson (160) took second,
and Bryce Jordan (285),
Jared Coxen (160), and Bryce
Miller (152) placed third.
“The freshmen, Millard
and Morrison are establish-
ing themselves as top light-
weights,” Olliff said. “Our
upperclassmen, Nelson and
Earhart, are leaders both on
and off the mat.”
The Dragons hope to see
injured wrestlers Jacob
Jones, Joe English and Dylan
Dupas healthy by the new
year.
Dallas will compete at the
Northwest Duals in Albany
Dec. 28-29.

“Cody Lawrence played
on Thursday and did a great
job,” Newton said. “Sydney
Lawrence is tough as nails.
When we need a basket, she
usually gets it for us.”
Sydney Lawrence scored a
combined 45 points during
the Pirates’ games on Friday
and Saturday.
The Pirates will need
players to continue step-
p i n g u p. Ne w t o n s a i d
Alyssa Lux injured her knee
during the weekend, which
could leave Perrydale with-
out three of its normal
starters this week.
Perrydale played Country
Christian Tuesday after press
time. The Pirates play at
Days Creek on Thursday.
“We’re working through
the things we have to,” New-
ton said. “Our younger play-
ers are getting experience so
when our injured girls come
back, we’ll be deeper. I can't
complain.”

“He’s keeping the ball
high,” Kidd said. “And he’s
more mature and bigger and
stronger. Some guys make a
big jump from their sopho-
more to junior year.”
Individually, Kidd is see-
ing talent. Putting it together
for 32 minutes will just take
time, he said.
“We need more practice
time,” Kidd said. “We’re try-
ing to integrate three players
into a system that the other
guys are used to. Some of
our schedule got rearranged
and, with the football season
going as long as it did, we
missed out on a week of
practice.”
