Irene Sackfield
July 29, 1923 – Sept. 15, 2017
Irene Sackfield made the
transfer to her Heavenly
Home Friday, Sept. 15, 2017,
with her family by her side.
She was a resident of Dal-
las Retire-
ment Vil-
lage.
She was
born in
Steener-
s o n ,
Minn., on
July 29,
1923, to Sofus and Hulda
Larson Swensen.
She met her husband,
David Sackfield, in Thorhult,
Minn. They married on Nov.
10, 1945. She was a home-
maker who loved taking care
of her family. Having lived
through World War II and
the Depression, she knew
how to create a refuge where
her family could gather at
the end of a good day or
not-so-good day. It was
there she taught life lessons
that were handed down to
us when we didn’t even
know we were paying atten-
tion.
She was a great seam-
stress and worked for
Jantzen Knitting Mills in her
younger years. She was a
wonderful cook and could
make a batch of doughnuts
the family fought over. Her
fingers were always busy
blessing those she loved.
And she loved well. She
loved to dance in her earlier
years. She liked playing
bingo and going to the
beach, and cherished family
gatherings. She was strong
and courageous and had a
steady, quiet faith.
She is survived by her
daughters Sharon Christen-
son (Bruce), of Monmouth,
and Vonda Lowther (Steve),
of Philomath; along with
grandsons, Todd, Rob, Gregg
Caudill and Rex Lowther;
eight great-grandchildren;
five great-great-grandchil-
dren; and several nieces and
nephews. She was preceded
in death by her husband
David in 2008 and siblings
Helen, Roy and Helmer.
Viewing will be from
noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept.
22, in the Dallas Mortuary
Tribute Center. Funeral serv-
ices will begin at 10 a.m. Sat-
urday, Sept. 23, in the Dallas
Retirement Village Chapel.
Interment will follow in the
Dallas Cemetery.

of what can only be de-
scribed as a life well-lived.
Ray was born in
Brownsville and raised in
Silverton. He attended Sil-
verton High School, where
he met and married the love
of his life and the best part-
ner anyone could ever ask
for, Ivy Jo. From there, the
two of them moved to
Valsetz, where they built a
life full of family, friends,
and fun for over 35 years.
From Valsetz to Sheridan
in 1984, Ray continued to
build a beautiful home and
surroundings for all to come
and enjoy.
Whether it be fishing,
camping, crabbing, four-
wheeling, or making some
of the most beautiful wood-
work, Ray loved it all and
loved sharing it all.
To say he will be missed is
an understatement, but the
love and memories will live
on with all of us who were
ever touched by him
throughout the years of that
well-lived life.
Ray is survived by Ivy, his
loving wife of 66 years; son
