OBITUARIES
Lorraine M.
(Rowland) Wells
Dec. 14, 1924 – Dec. 1, 2016
A lifetime Idaho and Ore-
gon resident, Lorraine M.
(Rowland) Wells, 91, died
Dec. 1 under hospice care at
the Boise Overland Court
Senior Living Center due to
dementia.
She was born Dec. 14,
1924, in Boise to Ralph and
Sophie (Heinrich) Rowland,
the fourth of five children.
At age 5, the family moved
to McCall in their model A
Ford via the crooked, narrow
dirt road from Boise to re-
join other family members.
Afterward, she and her fami-
ly lived there for many years
before she moved to Ore-
gon.
Lorraine was preceded in
death by her husband, Frank
Wells; parents, Ralph S. and
Sophie E. Rowland; broth-
ers, Leonard and Edward
Rowland; sister Alta
Fairchild; and son-in-law
Russell Huskey.
She is survived by her sis-
ter, Fay Fincher; and sister-
in-law Agnes Hieb; five chil-
dren Roger (Denice) Clyne,
Kay Huskey, Tom (Barbara)
Clyne, Cindy (David)
Williams and Darla (Roger)
Hemmert. Additionally, she
is survived by 17 grandchil-
dren, 25 great-grandchildren
and eight great-great-grand-
children.
Lorraine was a devoted
mother and grandmother
who possessed a strong
work ethic and was a de-
pendable employee from an
early age.
She proudly completed
her G.E.D. in midlife while
working as a school cook in
Monmouth, where she re-
tired in 1987.
She was multi-talented
and at an early age became
an expert seamstress on a
Singer treadle sewing ma-
chine, which allowed her to
make clothes for many fam-
ily members and acquain-
tances.
On one occasion, she
even reupholstered the fam-
ily couch by herself.
Annually, she and her
mother labored in the hot
summer kitchen to can
many jars of food for use
during the long Idaho win-
ters.
She was also known for
remembering family mem-
bers’ birthdays and sending
money along with grand-
children’s birthday cards.
Church was an important
aspect of her life, where she
sang in the church choir and
played in the bell choir, plus
regularly volunteering to as-
sist with numerous church
activities.
Throughout her life, she
was a dedicated volunteer
whenever her assistance was
needed.
Her talents led her to not
only participate in numer-
ous church activities but
also to commit years of serv-
ice to the Monmouth-Inde-
pendence Food Bank as well
as the Blood Bank where, in
addition registering donors,
she donated literally gallons
of blood over decades.
Long-term interests for
Lorraine included sewing,
embroidery, music, reading
newspapers, magazines and
books, daily walks, garden-
ing and marveling at the
beauties of nature.
As she requested, Lor-
raine’s remains were cremat-
ed and will be interred near
her parents’ graves in the
Bell Cemetery near McCall.
A graveside service will be
held on Monday, June 26 at 2
p.m. at the Bell Cemetery
where many family mem-
bers are interred. For further
information, please contact
Roger D. Clyne (907-299-
4747).
In lieu of flowers, the fam-
ily requests donations be
made to hospice in the loca-

ments are with Heikkila-
Carver Funeral Homer, Mc-
Call, Idaho.
