Registration must be completed and turned in by Feb. 23 in order to partici- pate on the first day of offi- cial practices on Feb. 27. The athletic office will be closed on Feb. 24. Sports registration costs $150 for all sports. Those qualifying for free lunch must provide the let- ter received from the dis- trict office. Cost will then be reduced to $35. The Dragons won the team title at the Mid- Willamette Conference District Wrestling Championships on Friday and Saturday for the seventh time in eight years. “It means a lot,” Treve Earhart said. “It’s nice to get it back. Time to start another streak.” Twelve Dragon wrestlers punched a ticket to state as Dallas prepares for Ta. Earhart a run at a 5A state title. — Moments after sophomore Jacob Jones pinned Sil- verton’s Tristan Lavier to win a dis- trict title at 126 pounds, the thrill Tr. Earhart of the moment took over. “It’s just crazy and exciting,” Jacob said. As his hand was raised in the air, Jacob’s father, and one of Dallas’ as- sistant coaches, John Jones let out a scream. “That’s a dedicated boy,” John Jones said. “He works hard. … I’m LUKAS EGGEN/ Itemizer-Observer Dallas’ Jacob Jones was one of four Dragon wrestlers to win an individual district title. Sharing the expe- rience with his fa- ther made his win much more meaningful, Jacob said. “It’s cool,” he said. “He’s been my coach and been with me athletically pretty much my whole life.” The moment wasn’t lost on John, either. “It’s fun to be a dad and to get to be on this side of things as a coach,” John said. Jones was one of four district champions from Dallas, joining Tan- ner Earhart (160), Cody Janssen (170) and Treve Earhart (195). “It’s cool,” Tanner said. “It’s weird because this is my last one, but it felt good.” Treve Earhart defeated Central’s Sam Crow for the third time this sea- son in the district finals, earning a 10-6 decision. See DRAGONS, Page 13A PREP WRESTLING PREP SWIMMING Negrete wins district title Ford headed to state Panthers send seven wrestlers to state later this month By Lukas Eggen By Lukas Eggen The Itemizer-Observer CORVALLIS — Central senior wrestler David Ne- grete (220 pounds) won his second district title on Satur- day night at the Mid- Willamette Conference Dis- trict Wrestling Champi- onships. “I’m glad I became a district champion again,” Ne- grete said. “It makes me feel good and Negrete s h o w s everyone I can do this.” This will be the third time Negrete is headed to the state wrestling champi- onships. After placing fourth in 2016, he’s ready to show how much he’s grown. “Last year, I was pretty nervous,” Negrete said. “This year, I’m more prepared.” The Panthers saw seven wrestlers qualify for state at districts. She settled on the 50- a n d 1 0 0 - y a rd f re e s t y l e events, and put on a s t r o n g showing on Friday and Satur- day. Ford qualified for state in Ford b o t h events — setting new school records in the process. Ford finished the 50 freestyle in 25.07 seconds, breaking the record previ- ously held by Jerusha Dres- sel. Ford broke her own mark in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.15. “It was pretty cool,” Ford said. “I’ve known I could get them for a while now. When I finally did set them, it was re- ally great.
