Republican women will
host a picnic in Monmouth
at the Gentle House. Tickets
are now available for the an-
nual celebration of the
American Values Picnic,
hosted by Polk County Re-
publican Women. The event
takes place Aug. 18 from 5 to
8 p.m. at the historic Gentle
House, 855 N. Monmouth
Ave., Monmouth. Social
hour starts at 5 p.m. fol-
lowed by dinner at 6 and a
program at 6:30.
Raffle tickets will be avail-
able. All proceeds support
Polk County Republican
Women programs.

photography group
Barbara Dimattio will lead a
new photography group that
meets the first Friday of each
month. The next meeting is
this Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the
Monmouth Senior Center.
Topics will include how to
take good photos by consid-
ering angles, shadows, light-
ing and more.
There is no cost to attend.
Raffle of quilt to
benefit library
Chess master Nancy
Albritton and her mother
donated a quilt to the
Friends of the Independ-
ence Library.
The group will hold a raf-
fle for the quilt. Tickets cost
$1 each or six for $5.

announced at the Hop Fes-

ACAC to host
second art camp
Ash Creek Arts Center will
host a second round of its
Amazing Puppets, Amazing
Stories summer art camp.
The camp will take place
Aug. 15, 18 and 19 from
noon to 2:30 p.m. Instruc-
tors Francie Zandol, Kathy
Lord and Cheryl Lewis will
lead the camp.
The camp is open to chil-
dren ages 9 and older. Regis-

The 60th reunion will be held on Aug. 6 at
Murphy’s Restaurant on East Ellendale in
Dallas. The gathering will begin 11:30 a.m.,

class reunion – The annual Independence
High All-School Reunion will be held on
Aug. 20 beginning at 11 a.m. Everyone

tion Support Center. A catered lunch is $15.
