Leonard L. Brown, 85, of
Sun River, formerly of Dal-
las, died April 26.
He was born in Salem to
Archie and Hazel Brink

Oct. 26, 1952. They enjoyed
more than 60 years togeth-
er.
He started working at the
post office as a janitor, and
worked his way through the
ranks to become postmas-
ter. He retired after 35 years
with the agency.
He served as a president
of the National Association
of Postal Supervisors for the
state of Oregon and worked
with many in the legislature.
He enjoyed HO railroading,
fishing, golfing, Bocci ball,
traveling and pickle ball. He
also enjoyed wintering in
Arizona.
His wife, Marcella died on
Jan. 8, 2013. Siblings Clif-
ford, Gordon, Virginia and
Harold also died before he
did.
Survived by sons, Jim
(Denise), of Sun River, and
Dennis (Marci), of Dallas;
eight grandchildren; and
seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the
Evangelical Bible Church in
Dallas. The Dallas Mortuary
Tribute Center handled

Sterling James
Trowbridge

Sterling James Trow-
bridge, 63, of Dallas, died on
April 24 in Dallas.
Sterling was born in
Salem to Jimmy and Arlene
(Monson)

1971. On
Feb. 9,
1973, he married his high-
school sweetheart, Carol
Kahler, at the First Christian
Church in Dallas. They had
two children, Jennifer and
Justin.
Sterling worked as a
butcher for more than 30
years, retiring from Carlton
Packing Company in 1995.
He went on to own and op-
erate 4T’s Vending Service
and worked part time at the
Old Mill Feed and Garden in
Dallas. He retired for the
second time in 2012.
Sterling was a caring, con-
siderate, friendly man. He
loved fishing, hunting,
shooting and archery. He
also enjoyed golfing, bowl-
ing, and collecting guns.
Survived by wife, Carol, of
Dallas; daughter, Jennifer
(JC) Aubry, of Gresham; son,
Justin (Tawnia), of Dallas;
mother, Arlene, of Dallas;
brothers, Doug Trowbridge
and David Trowbridge, both
of Dallas; sisters, DeLinda
Woods, of Tidewater, and
Tina Anderson, of Dallas;
five grandchildren; and ex-
tended family.
A funeral Mass was held
at St. Philip Catholic Church
in Dallas. A committal serv-
ice was held at Belcrest Me-
morial Park in Salem.

of Willamina, died on April
27.

tion, he and his father part-
nered to form Shenk Dairy.
Wes married Sharon Nyleen
on Aug. 5, 1961, and raised
four children on the family
farm.
He was a farmer his entire
life. Just behind his love for
Sharon and his family was
his love for spending time
behind the wheel of his John
Deere tractors.
Wesley V., like his father
Wesley E., was known
throughout the Willamina
area as an honest, hard-
working, generous man. He
volunteered countless hours
for the local community, es-
pecially the school district.
Dairy farming kept him
near the family farm, but he
enjoyed “time off” playing
golf, snow skiing, attending
Beaver games, and in his
later years, traveling, camp-
ing and fifth-wheel trips
with his wife and siblings.
He and Sharon enjoyed
many seasons of sporting
events rooting for the
Willamina High School Bull-
dogs, and their grandchil-
dren’s teams which included
road trips throughout Ore-
gon and across the country.
Older sister Luella
Hostetler (Harper Kansas),
an infant brother Donald
Shenk, and an infant grand-
daughter Bridgette Ann
Chewning all died before he
did.
Survived by his loving
wife of 54 years, Sharon
Marie (Nyleen); children,
Detonia Marie Chewning
(Brad), of Willamina, Dou-
glas Paul (Laurie), of Philo-
math, Curt Daniel (Diane),
of Medford, and David
Gabriel (Brenda), of Willami-
na; 14 grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; sisters,
Beverly Emmert (Cal) and
Louise Marner, of Sweet
Home, Kathleen Coblentz
(Daniel); brother Ronald
Shenk (Sally), of Willamina;
and extended family.
Funeral services will be
held at the Nazarene Church
in Sheridan on Tuesday at 2
p.m. The Dallas Mortuary
