Author Phillip Margolin
will give a speech at Dallas
Public Library Thursday at 6
p.m. at Dallas Public Library.
Margolin, who lives in
Portland, is best known for
his crime thrillers, including
“Woman with a Gun,” “Wor-
thy Brown’s Daughter,” and
“Sleight of Hand.” Margolin
has written 21 novels, the
latest being “Violent
Crimes.” He is a recipient of
the Distinguished Northwest
Writer Award.
The Friends of the Dallas
Library and the Polk County
Cultural Coalition are spon-
soring the event.

Sign up for bird
walk by Monday
The Luckiamute Water-
shed Council invites the
public to attend a bird walk
on April 16. The three-hour
event begins at 8 a.m. at the
Luckiamute State Natural
Area’s South Unit trailhead
parking lot.
Cost is $10 and includes a
light lunch. All ages are wel-
come. Pre-registration is re-
quired and due by Monday.
Joel Geier, local bird ex-
pert and Audubon ornithol-
ogist will lead the walk,
which may present chances
to hear and see birds like the
white-breasted nuthatch,
western bluebird and more.
