Pentacle Theatre
Diary of Anne Frank
The Pentacle Theatre, 324
52nd Ave. NW, Salem, will
present The Diary of Anne
Frank. The play begins Fri-
day and runs through March
26.
An exhibit featuring Anne
Frank photographs, histori-
cal artifacts and a documen-
tary will be presented in the
lobby. Shows run at 7:30 p.m.
except for Sundays, which
have 2 p.m. performances.
Tickets cost $20 for week-
day performances and $21
for weekend shows.

Movie fundraiser
set for Monday
Friends of the Independ-
ence Public Library will hold
its 10th anniversary movie
fundraiser Monday at Inde-
pendence Cinema 8.
“The Intern” will be
played at 7 p.m. Tickets cost
$15 and can be purchased at
the Independence library.
Free popcorn and door
prizes will be available.
MVCA to host
banquet & auction
Mi d - Va l l e y C h r i s t i a n
Academy will host its eighth
annual banquet and auction
Saturday at 5 p.m.
The auction will be held at
Central Baptist Church, 655
S. Pacific Highway, Mon-
mouth. Money raised will
support MVCA. Polk County
Commissioner Mike
Ainsworth will serve as auc-
tioneer.
Dinner tickets cost $20
each. Entrees include a
choice of prime rib or chick-
en marsala.
Child care services are
also available for kids ages 3-
10. Cost is $5 for the first
child, $10 max per family.
A pizza dinner is included.

Ash Creek offers
two art camps
Ash Creek Arts Center will
offer two art camps this year,
free for those attending
grades four through seven.
Previous camps have
filled up quickly. The ACAC
board of directors hopes to
serve twice as many children
by offering two camps.
The first camp will be
March 21 through 24 from 1
to 3 p.m. daily at St. Hilda’s
Episcopal Church Parish

will work together to make a
large-scale model of a South
America cloud forest and

terflies, hummingbirds and

The second camp will be
held July 18 through 21 from
10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Children wishing to at-
tend both camps may sign
up for one and request to be
added to the waiting list of
the second.

Monmouth Library
to host concert
Monmouth Public Library
will host Magic Mama Hip
Hop and World Beats con-
cert Friday at 10:30 a.m.
Magic Mama plays a vari-
ety of instruments, from an
acoustic guitar to canning
jars filled with water. She
records and layers vocals
and multiple instruments
through a loop machine. Au-
dience members will receive
handmade, recycled instru-
ments.
OSU Master food
preservers wanted
Polk, Marion, and Yamhill
county offices of Oregon
State University Extension
Service are recruiting volun-
teers to become Master
Food Preservers.
Trainees require 48 hours
of hands-on food safety and
preservation instruction.
Training classes will be held
on Friday April 15 through
June 3 at the Salem Health
Community Health Educa-
tion Center Gehlar Wellness
Kitchen. Applications are
due March 11. The classes
cost $100.
Following the classes, vol-
unteers are asked to provide
40 hours of service helping
other safely preserve food.

Author, illustrator
visits Dallas library
The Dallas Public Library
is hosting Oregon author
and illustrator Mark Fearing
Thursday at 4 p.m. Fearing
has written and illustrated
several books and graphic
novels for kids and young
teens, including “The Great
T h a n k s g i v i n g E s c a p e,”
“Earthling!,” and “How
Martha Saved Her Parents
from Green Beans.”
Fearing’s presentation
“Drawing Stories” will focus
on narrative, examining vi-
sual art through powerful
images and how stories are
told through pictures and
words.
The event will appeal to
kids age 10 and older who
are interested in art, drawing
and creating stories.

UO jazz band part
of free DHS concert
JazzArts Oregon Combo,
from the University of Ore-
gon, will join the Dallas High
School Jazz Band for a free
concert Monday.
The show begins at 7 p.m.
at Bollman Auditorium at
Dallas High School, 1250 SE
Holman Ave.
UO’s JazzArts Combo is a
donor-funded scholarship
ensemble, which debuted
last fall. The group is per-
forming in Dallas as part of a
Northwest tour.

WOU symphony
winter concert
Western Oregon Universi-
ty’s symphony winter con-
cert, “It don’t mean a thing if
you can’t make it sing,” will
be at 7:30 p.m. on March 9
at Rice Auditorium on cam-
pus.
Admission is $3. Students
are $1. WOU students and
faculty get in free with ID.
The symphony, directed
by Ike Nail, will present a
program of music that is
mostly from singing, about
singing or just sounds
singable.
The program lasts about
an hour.
Rickreall Grange
to host market
The Rickreall Grange Flea
Market will be Saturday and
Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
at the grange, 280 Main St.
(Highway 99W), Rickreall.
The kitchen will be open
for breakfast and lunch. Pro-
ceeds will go toward the
building fund. Fresh cinna-
mon rolls will be available
