DEADLINES
Flu shot clinics continue Friday
DALLAS — The lu season has arrived. The Polk County Public
Health Department will sponsor several lu shot clinics. This
year’s lu vaccine is $26.
Payments may be made by cash or check. Oregon Health
Plan and Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon, non-
Medicare, is accepted. No one will be turned away for inability
to pay.
Pneumonia vaccines also are available. The lu vaccine is rec-
ommended for those 6 months of age and older, according to
the public health department. This year’s vaccination is the
quadrivalent lu vaccine, which protects against four strains of
lu instead of the three strains ofered in previous years. This
year’s vaccine should be more efective in covering the strains
that are most prevalent during lu season.
The schedule is:
• Friday: 10:30 a.m. to noon, Polk County Courthouse, First
loor Conference Room, 850 Main St. Dallas.
• Nov. 13: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Polk County Public Health, Suite
302, Academy Building, 182 SW Academy St., Dallas.

Indy Event Center gets new coordinator
INDEPENDENCE — Courtney Williams started as the new co-
ordinator for the Independence Event Center on Oct. 19.
Williams, of Salem, has experience as a wedding planner and
as a property manager.
Her job will be to monitor the event center and market the
space to businesses in the community and surrounding areas,
bringing more revenue to the city. Previously, the city of Inde-
pendence contracted the job out or added it to the duties of
other staf members.
“Now that it’s an actual position (within the city staing), I
can use it more to plan events for the community, branch out
there and do things that I don’t think they were expecting,”
Williams said.
The event center will likely see more use as the holidays ap-
proach, both for business parties and for family gatherings, she
said.

Local officers to be honored at banquet
GRAND RONDE — Polk County deputy Casey Gibson and
Dallas oicers Colby Hamiliton and Jim Rodriguez will be given
lifesaving awards Friday during the Oregon Peace Oicers Asso-
ciation annual awards banquet.
The 46th annual event will be held at 7 p.m. at Spirit Moun-
tain Casino in Grand Ronde.
The three oicers are being recognized for their actions in
rescuing injured Polk County deputy Shon Latty from his burn-
ing patrol car after he was involved in an accident in July.
In addition to lifesaving awards, police oicers from across
the state will be presented with medal of valor, medal of honor,
purple heart, distinguished service and unit citation honors.

Realtors hope five parcels in Dallas will go quickly

DALLAS — The unsold
properties off Monmouth
Cutoff Road in Dallas in-
cluded in an industrial land
auction held last spring are
once again slated for auction
this month.
Auction firm Realty Mar-
keting/Northwest is hoping
the second time all properties
sell, but to make sure that is
the case, the firm is making a
few changes from its first of-
fering of the properties.
The prices have been re-
duced on all but one of the
properties, but the firm also
noticed a different trend.

thal said many parcels in the
107-acre sale in the spring
were offered in large tracts.

About half of them sold, in-
cluding the largest, a 52-acre
property off Godsey Road,
Rosenthal said.
With the rest of the pieces,
Rosenthal said potential buy-
ers were interested, but not
biting for a specific reason.
“That’s what we learned in
the spring, nobody wanted
large tracts,” Rosenthal said.
In response, one of the
properties previously offered
in a 26-acre chunk has been
subdivided into 3-acres, 4-
acres and 19-acre tracts.
Rosenthal said if the prop-
erty is sold in that fashion,
the owners will have to
apply to the city of Dallas to
have it subdivided.
