Ribich p l a c e d 10th over- all in the 8- kilometer race with a time of 24 Ribich minutes, 38.21 seconds. Zach Holloway finished second for WOU, taking 28th with a time of 25:15.14 as the men placed fifth out of all NCAA Div. II teams compet- ing in Seattle. Nicole Maurmann led the women’s team, taking 59th in the 6K race in 22:59.64. Wester n Oregon will compete at the Willamette Invitational in Salem on Oct. 3. WOU FOOTBALL FALLS TO WILDCATS: Central Washing- ton scored 40 unanswered points en route to a 40-19 win over Western Oregon on Satur- day. The Wolves took a 6-0 lead after redshir t sophomore Phillip Fenumiai scored on a 5- yard run, but the Wildcats scored the final 40 points of the first half, including 26 in the second quarter. Quarterback Trey Shimabukuro threw for 293 yards, a touchdown and an interception during the loss. The Dragons split a pair of Mid-Willamette Conference matchups, defeating South Albany 25-6, 25-22, 25-9 on Sept. 15 before falling to Cor- vallis 25-17, 23-25, 16-25, 25- 12, 15-7 on Thursday. The Dragons (6-2 overall, 3-1 MWC), also defeated Red- mond, Central and Parkrose in best-of-three matches dur- ing the Dallas Tournament on Saturday. Dallas hosted Cres- cent Valley Tuesday after press time. The Dragons play at Lebanon on Thursday be- fore competing in the Ore- gon City Tournament on Sat- urday and at Silverton on Tuesday. CENTRAL SPLITS LEAGUE SHOWDOWNS: Central’s vol- leyball team earned a split of its league matchups. The Pan- thers defeated Crescent Val- ley 28-26, 25-16, 25-23 on Sept. 15 before losing to Lebanon 25-9, 25-18, 25-13 on Thursday. The Panthers also competed at the Dallas Tournament on Saturday. Play begins at 6 p.m. Itemizer-Observer Athlete of the Week Harrison Broadus Dallas High Broadus, a junior quarterback, helped Dallas cruise to a 53-14 win over Woodburn on Friday. Broadus threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns against the Bulldogs. He also ran for two more scores in the second quarter, as Dallas built a 47- 0 lead at the half before being pulled early in the third quarter. Broadus made short throws and long bombs as the Dragons fired on all cylinders. Bailie Hartford Central High Hartford, a sophomore, led a strong showing by Central when she placed ninth overall at the Silver Falls Oktober- fest Invitational on Sept. 16. Hartford finished the 5-kilometer race in 22 min- utes, 35.7 seconds to finish in the top 10 individually. Hart- ford’s performance helped the Panthers’ girls take third in the team standings behind Scappoose and East Linn Chris- tian. Price: Pirates growing fast Continued from Page 10A The process hasn’t been easy, but it has made Price a better teammate and leader. “You really learn how hard all the positions are,” she said. “Last year, I’d get frus- trated if people couldn’t pass (from the back row). This year, being in their spot, it’s tough. You learn to have more respect for those play- ers.” Price hasn’t just gained a newfound appreciation. She’s showing she can take control of a match wherever she is on the court.
