DALLAS — Not fire, not
rain.
Nothing was going to
dampen the spirit of “Krazy
Dayz” during Summerfest
2015, though Mother Na-
ture tried her best.
Friday night’s 250-acre
field fire near Monmouth
canceled the return of
Dallas Fire Department’s
hydrocart races and made
for a long day for Dallas’
volunteer contingent.
Then, as a followup act,
it rained — poured at
times — on Saturday’s
Summerfest parade in
downtown Dallas.
Chelsea Metcalfe, the ex-
ecutive director of event
host Dallas Area Visitors
Center, just smiled at the
sky and mused that it was
better than 105-degree
heat.
Indeed. As ill-timed as it
was, the brief break from

the heat was welcome.
And it didn’t deter the au-
dience, which came pre-
pared with umbrellas and
hoods.
Soon, the sun broke
through the clouds and
crowds gathered again to
hear live entertainment at
the Polk County Courthouse
lawn. Lines once again
formed for the Oregon
Army National Guard’s zip
line and laser tag game.
It was like the rain never
happened, and Summerfest
marched on with its third
day.
Dallas’ biggest annual
celebration concluded Sun-
day with Dallas Rotary’s
breakfast, a car show and
Art in the Park — and yes, a
few sprinkles along the way.

Some parade participants delivered candy directly to kids along the parade route Sat-
urday. It’s a good thing because with the rain, those treats were at risk of getting soggy.

Not everyone was thrilled with the rain. This parade entry was one umbrella short.

Lizard Love Rescue gave people a chance to get up close and personal with some slith-
ery creatures, like these snakes, during Summerfest’s parade.

turing ’80s rocker look alikes, a boom box, Pac Man and Rubik’s Cubes.
