6A Polk County Itemizer-Observer • July 22, 2015 Polk County News OBITUARIES Robin Ray Galusha Pauline Smith Dec. 10, 1958 – July 14, 2015 Jan. 19, 1918 – July 12, 2015 Robin “Rob” Galusha, 56, of Lebanon, died July 14 in Albany. He was born to Clifford and Inez Martin Galusha in Eugene. Rob married Lori Watson on Oct. 9, 2009, in Hopewell. Rob worked for the city of Salem for 31 years and had recently received a civic recognition award. He was a member of Salt Creek Baptist Church and had served the church in many capacities. He was a member of Salem Alliance Church. Rob was a baseball coach as his boys were grow- ing up and helped build the baseball diamond in Perry- dale. Rob had a great sense of humor. He loved the out- doors and enjoyed sharing time with family and friends fishing and hunting. He was preceded by his father, Clifford. Survivors include his wife, Lori; sons, Chad ( Janis), Cheyne, Clint (Leah), Jeremy (Pamela), Casey, Darick (Na- talie), and Cyle (Delci); Lori’s children, Ryan (Lisa) Lehto and Toby (Amy) Bunce; m o t h e r, In e z Ga l u s h a ; brothers, Jesse (Becky), Frank (Donna), and Harry (Darlene); sister, Bonnie Bell; and 15 grandchildren. She was born in Taylor County, Iowa, to Glenn and Hazel (Borders) Oxley. Pauline grew up in the Guss, Iowa, area and gradu- ated from Bedford High School in Bedford, Iowa. After graduation, she taught in a one-room country school for two years near her family home. She s a v e d enough from her first teach- ing job to take The Challenger train from Omaha, Neb., to Los Angeles. She stayed with her aunt Betty and worked as an aide at Good Samari- tan Hospital in Los Angeles. She moved to Denver and attended business school. She was secretary to the president of a chiropractic college and later worked for a chiropractor office as she attended Clarinda Junior College in Clarinda, Iowa. At the age of 30, she had picked up enough credits for a bachelor’s degree at San Jose State College in San Jose, Calif., and soon was teaching elementary school in San Rafael, Calif. Her life changed when she and her good friend Juanita Steele took a summer road trip to the Black Hills. While driving through South Dakota, a truck side- swiped them on a curve and it required an eight-day wait in Rapid City, S.D., to get them on the road again. TAYLOR LACEY K.D. LOGAN Nov 12, 1999 - July 13, 2015 Taylor Lacey K.D. Logan, 15, of Dal- las had an unfortunate accident on July 11, 2015. She was pronounced dead on July 13, at 12:55 p.m. at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in the pediatric ICU. Taylor was born in Salem and had lived in Dallas since the age of 5. She at- tended LaCreole Middle School and just completed 8th grade. She was a very ac- tive young lady involved in softball, volleyball and basketball. Taylor enjoyed camping and swimming. During the summer Taylor lived in the swimming pool and rivers. Everywhere we went she always wanted to make sure there was a swim- ming pool. Survivors include her father, James Logan; mother, Angie Bishop; sister, Kora Logan, all of Dallas; uncle, Josh Pittman; aunt, Shonie Pittman; cousins, Max and Alli Pittman, all of Dallas; grandparents, Troy and Jeanne Bishop of Klamath, Calif., and Mike and Terry Cook of Grand Ronde. Taylor was a kind, caring person who would go out of her way to make people feel included. She had gotten her permit and completed driver’s education. She had just started to talk about planning her 16th birthday party. The cause of death was an accidental drowning. Taylor was an extremely good swimmer. It was determined that there was no trauma and that Taylor either attempted to hold her breath too long or hyperventilated herself and passed out. Kora and her mother, Angie thought that Taylor was messing around and doing the dead man’s float. They were able to get her out of the pool and her mother performed CPR but this did not save her life. They were married in Sep- tember 1951. Pauline had a passion for family history, birdwatching, gardening and travel. Merle passed away, and she moved to Capital Manor in West Salem in 2005. She is preceded in death by her husband, Merle; brother, Lowell Oxley; and sister, Vesta Andrew. Sur- vivors include her siblings, Audrey Miller Bridie and Lloyd Oxley; children, Sue Smith, Julia Smith, Patsy Smith Ross, and Stuart Smith; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a large extended family. Memorial service is Aug. 1 at 2 p.m. at Capitol Manor. Interment will be at Los Gatos Memorial Park in San Jose. Contributions are sug- gested to a favorite charity. Coonrod, 83, of Dallas died July 14 in Salem. He was born to James and Pearl Coonrod in Avery, Okla. John married his wife, Joyce, on Nov. 13, 1953, in Dallas. He served in the Army in Korea. Dallas had been John’s home for 61 years. He retired from Wi- llamette Industries in Dallas. Darleen Ann Isitt Oct. 6, 1938 – July 18, 2015 Darleen Ann Isitt, 76, of Salem died Saturday in Salem. She was born in San Bernardino, Calif., to Alfred and Vivian Provance Pendle- ton. Darleen moved from Southern California to Falls City in 1980 and to Salem in 1997. She worked at the El- lendale Home in Dallas as a cook and retired in 1997. She was a member of the Quick Response Team in Falls City and enjoyed acrylic painting, embroidery and ceramics. She was a master Scrabble player and enjoyed her large family. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Isitt in 1978; son, James A. Isitt in 1985; and a great-grandson, Gannon Howell. Survivors include her daughters, Ronda Gallegos (Robin Boren) of Salem and Julie Graham of Dallas; sons, Robert J. Williams of Ken- newick, Wash., John (Jurita) E. Williams of Salem and Joseph (Dawn) Lee Isitt of Dallas; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Private interment will be at Falls City Cemetery. Roberta Louise Bunselmeyer Sept. 26, 1944 – July 16, 2015 Roberta “Bobbie” Louise Bunselmeyer, 70, of Salem, formerly of Newport and Dallas, died Thursday. She was born in Coving- ton, Ky., to Vincent Richard and Carleen Beatrice Trame Slaughter. Bobbie moved from Ken- tucky to Ohio and then to Joplin, Mo. She received her registered nurses training from St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, Mo., and graduated in 1965. She met her one and only in Walter George Bun- selmeyer. They were married on Jan. 21, 1967, in Joplin. They lived in several states including Michigan and Cal- ifornia before moving to Oregon in 1988. She worked for Valley Community Hos- pital in Dallas, Kaiser Per- manente in Salem and the Salem Hospital, and was a nurse for 50 years. Following her retirement, she volun- teered with her nursing skills at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Bobbie was a member of the Catholic Church and had attended St. Philip in Dallas, St. Joseph and Queen of Peace, both in Salem. She loved living at the coast for the past few years and travel- ing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wal- ter, on Aug. 9, 1998. Survivors include her sons, Douglas and Richard, both of Salem; brothers, James Slaughter, David Slaughter, Michael Slaugh- ter, Donald Slaughter and Joseph Slaughter; and six grandchildren. Evelyn Petersen Aug. 27, 1925 – July 14, 2015 Evelyn Petersen, 89, of Salem died July 14. She was born and grew up in Yakima, Wash. She moved to Seattle when she was 16 years old. There she met Alvin John Gran. They were married Feb. 21, 1944. After 48 years of marriage, Alvin died suddenly. A few years later, Ev’s path crossed with Carl Petersen. After a brief courtship, they were married on Jan. 22, 1994, and enjoyed 21 years of mar- riage. She loved music, flowers and anything pretty. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping, gardening and family re- unions. With her second husband, she en- joyed a trip to Europe for four weeks and saw her father’s homeland in Switzerland. Evelyn trusted in and loved Jesus and especially enjoyed being involved with “Bible Study Fellowship.” She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alvin Gran; brothers, Arnold and Orville Fund; sisters, Bertha Beers and Esther May; and grandson, Paul Gran in 1974. Survivors include her hus- band of 21 years, Carl Pe- tersen of Salem; brother, Ed Fund of Centralia, Wash.; daughters, Gale (Darwin) Brown of Salem, Marilyn (Mike) Moore of Chelan, Wash.; son, Doug (Kate) Gran of SeaTac, Wash.,; six grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; her stepchil- dren, Carl’s family, Diane (Ben) Shah of Washougal, Wash., Greg Petersen of Ed- mond, Okla., Sandy (Vince) Peterson of Woodbridge, Va.; six step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren. Fred Dornhecker July 19, 1923 – July 19, 2015 Fred Willard Dornhecker, 92, of Dallas died Sunday in Dallas, at the same farm on Pioneer Road he was born on. He was born to George and Georgia (Curtiss) Dorn- hecker. When he was 16, they moved to Falls City where they had their first in- door plumbing and electric- ity. Fred attended Falls City High School where he let- tered in baseball. He gradu- ated from Falls City High School and joined the Navy in 1942, and was discharged in 1945. In 1944, he married Mary Jean Westbrook in Vancou- ver, Wash. Mary Jean died in 1997. They had five children, Fred C. Dornhecker (Sheri) of La Pine, Linda Condon (Jack) of Dallas, Jim Dorn- hecker (de- ceased), Kelly McIn- t o s h ( Mi c h a e l ) of West Salem, and K e v i n Dornheck- er (Sheri) of Dallas. F r e d loved to hunt and fish. He most especially enjoyed raising cows and tending his farm. Fred also enjoyed watching the Seattle Mariners. Fred worked at Boise Cas- cade Lumber Mill in Inde- pendence and later in Adair. He retired from a cleaning company that serviced HP in Corvallis. He married Mary Long in 1998, and added three more children, Jennifer Belin (de- ceased), Henry Long of Dal- las and Melodie (Mark) Sick- les of Falls City. Mary died in 2005. He also had many grand- children and great-grand- children. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Curt Dornhecker and sister, Mary Lou Heckendorn. Graveside service is Fri- day at 10 a.m. at Dallas Cemetery. Memorial service follows at 11 a.m. at Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center.
