benefit SFA series
A Little Bit Country

House will host the 15th an-
nual mid-summer luau pic-
nic and auction, “The Fabu-
lous ’40s,” at 4:30 p.m. on
Sunday.
The event is a benefit for
Western Oregon University’s
Smith Fine Arts Series. Cost
is $35 per person or $240 for
a table of eight. Donations
and sponsorships are avail-
able.
Live music will be provid-
ed by Swingers Unlimited.
The evening will include a
raffle, silent and live auc-
tion.

Outdoor cooking
class is Saturday
STEP up to 4-H will offer
an outdoor cooking class on
Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2
p.m. The class is open to all
students in grades four
through 12.
The class will teach par-
ticipants how to harness
the sun’s power to make
pizza box solar ovens to
cook an appetizer, flip some
pancakes/fritters on tin can
stoves made from coffee
cans, and work together as

arranging and principals of
design, color and balance
during a workshop July 23
from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Maggie Triplett, of Petals

teach the class, open to chil-
dren in grades four through

offer opportunity
The Polk County Job Fair
will be from 11 a.m. to 7
p.m. Wednesday (today) at

More than a dozen local
employers will be present

re-write resumes, fill out
online applications or prac-
tice interviewing skills.

2015 Horse Owner’s Work-

Eola Hills Wine Cellars
will host a “Star Party” on
Friday from 7 to 11:30 p.m.
Members of the Salem-
based astronomy club
Nightsky 45 will be in atten-
dance with telescopes and

ble in the night sky.
The event is open to any-
one ages 8 and older.
Festivities begin at 7 p.m.
with a “Star Flight” of wines
offered in the Legacy Hills
tasting room for $10.
Stargazers are also invited
to bring supplies to roast
marshmallows and make
s’mores. Optimal viewing
time is suggested from 9:30

Independence High School’s Class of 1950

in the class, the largest ever to be graduat-
