Betty was born on January 21, 1921 to Robert and Margaret Buckley-Jones in Gaerwen Anglesey North Wales. She had one sister (Gwen) and two brothers (Jack and Gareth) who remained in North Wales. When she was in grammer school Queen Elizabeth, who was a princess at the time, came to her school and she was introduced. After the war, in January of 1948, she moved to Oregon with her young son Terry to start a new life.
