Rates to go up at Dallas pool
By Jolene Guzman

DALLAS — The Dallas
City Council made a minor
change to the Dallas Aquatic
Center admission rates at its
meeting Monday night.
The council approved a
resolution that increased the
family rate from $14 to $16.
The new rate still pro-
vides a discount off regular
admission rates for families
of four ($19-$20), but also
allows the center to collect
an additional $10,000 per
year.
“It’s still very cheap, and
it’s a very good deal,” said
Councilor Kelly Gabliks, the
chairwoman of the council’s
administration committee,
which recommended the
change to the council.
The council, serving as
the Dallas Urban Renewal
Agency Board, also ap-
proved a change to the
urban renewal budget for
Government
2015-16 to help cover unan-
ticipated costs for a
streetscape project slated for
the current fiscal year.
Bids on the project, which
spans the south side of Mill
Street from Main Street to
the mid-block alley, exceed-
ed estimates by $20,000 to
$25,000.
About $50,000 was bud-
geted this year for the proj-
ect, though the total cost
now is estimated to be more
than $80,000, including
landscape materials and
lighting installation that
were not part of the project
bid.
To cover the extra cost,
agency staff recommended
the board revise the 2015-16
urban renewal budget, tak-
ing $35,000 from contin-
gency funds.
The change will allow the
agency to pay for the project
out of the current budget
and next year’s, and leave
about $132,000 in contin-
gency.
Jason Locke, the city’s
economic development di-
rector, said the increase
was mainly due to con-
struction costs in general
going up.
A resolution adopting the
agency budget will be before
the board at its June 15
meeting.
In other business, the
council:
• Held a public hearing on
the city’s 2015-16 budget at
which no one testified.
A resolution adopting the
budget will be before coun-
cil at its June 15 meeting.
