Itemizer-Observer staff report
CORVALLIS — Dallas’
girls tennis team may not
have any state qualifiers,
but coach
Jordan
Sollman
wasn’t dis-
appoint-
ed.
“Dis-
tricts was
a lot of fun
and we
Brewen
saw a lot
of good competition from
all schools,” Sollman said.
Each of the Dragons’ sin-
gles players, including
Marissa
Brewen
and Sa-
v a n n a
Poston,
and the
team’s top
doubles
pair ad-
Poston
vanced to
the second round of the
championship bracket,
while the doubles pair of
Dana Taylor and Adelaine
Gillette advanced to the
consolation finals.
Now, Sollman is hoping
his girls are inspired to train
throughout the summer
and build on the base they
laid during the spring sea-
son.
“I thought all of my girls
competed really well and I
am very proud of the suc-
cess we had this year,” Soll-
man said. “It was a fun first
year of coaching and I am
excited for this offseason
with all the girls to really de-
fine and improve their
skills.”
Dallas boys
The Dallas boys tennis
team knows this season was
a work in progress. But the
Dragons saw positive signs
in Corvallis. Jacob Harustak
and the doubles pairs of
Travis Wilson and Michael
Friesen, and Josh Dudley
and Randy Mullins ad-
vanced to the second round
before falling.
“All the guys did great
and it was amazing to look
back at the very first prac-
tice we had and see how far
we had come at districts,”
Dragons coach Caleb
Gillette said. “It would al-
ways be nice to advance
further, but I didn’t feel like
we underachieved. … They
really gave it their all and
that’s what counts.”
