Artists reception
celebrates Neal
Ash Creek Arts Center will
host an artist reception from
5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednes-
day (today) at its gallery at
MaMere’s Bed and Break-
fast, 212 Knox St., Mon-
mouth.
The reception is part of
the exhibit, “Prospective,” by
Alicia Neal, a Monmouth
artist studying at Western
Oregon University. Neal will
be present to discuss her
work.
The art display conveys
the beauty Neal sees con-
nected to the human experi-
ence through the use of ce-
ramic sculpture and print
making.
The exhibit runs through
May 15 and may be viewed
by appointment by emailing
ashcreekarts@gmail.com.
Garage sale
benefits center
Many items at the Mon-
mouth Senior Center’s an-
nual Trash or Treasure sale
were leftover.
Bruce and June Gordon
will host a garage sale with
what was left from 7 a.m. to
5 p.m. on Saturday at their
home, 813 Knox St. N., Mon-
mouth.
All proceeds will go to the
Monmouth Senior Center.
Waffles to send
students to Kenya
A special waffle fundrais-
er will be at the Monmouth
Senior Center from 9 to
11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The center is working
with Western Oregon Uni-
versity to send students to
Kenya for a service project.
Waffles and homemade
jams will be available. The
cost is $5.
Stamp Out Hunger
food drive returns
The Marion-Polk County
Food Share is partnering
with letter carriers for the
Stamp Out Hunger food
drive on Saturday.
To participate, collect
nonperishable food items
and leave them in a bag near
the mailbox on Saturday. A
letter carrier or volunteer
will retrieve the donation
and ensure it gets to the
food share or local food
pantry.
In 2014, more than 94,000
pounds of food was collect-
ed in Marion and Polk coun-

RFL fundraisers
set for May 15
American Cancer Society
Relay for Life of Polk County
teams are busy raising funds
for this year’s 24-hour relay
on May 30 to 31. The com-
munity is encouraged to be
part of these upcoming relay
team sponsored activities.
First Community Credit
Union is having a “Fun Bowl
Fundraiser” on May 15 from
9 to 11:30 p.m. at Starlite
Lanes in Dallas. The cost is
$20 per person and includes
three games of bowling (one
“wacky” and two regular),
shoe rental, two slices of
pizza, one drink and one
frozen treat. Extra
food/drinks can be ordered
in advance. Starlite Lanes
kitchen will also be open
throughout the event. There
will be a silent auction,
prizes and a drawing for a
$25 Visa gift card.

Team Hope will host a
Dance for the Cure on May
15 at The Majestic, 979 Main
St., Dallas. The event begins
with dance time for minors

p.m. to 1 a.m. Cost is $10 a
person or $18 for two. There
will be a no-host bar open
during this dance.
