YMCA to host parent meeting
INDEPENDENCE — Monmouth-Independence YMCA will host
an informational meeting for parents Wednesday (today) at 6:30
p.m. in the gym at Henry Hill Education Service Center, 750 S.
Fifth St., Independence.
The meeting is for parents and their kids who have registered
for or are interested in registering for the following YMCA pro-
grams: micro tee ball, third- through sixth-grade volleyball, tee
ball, soccer training camp and gymnastics.
Coaches and staff members will be on hand to introduce
themselves and answer any questions.

Dragon Run registration now open
DALLAS — Registration for the eighth Annual Dragon Run on
April 11 is now open.
The event features a variety of distances ranging from a quar-
ter mile to 5-kilometer runs available. The runs begin at 10 a.m.
Cost is $20 for the 5-kilometer race and $15 for all other dis-
tances. There is a group discount of $3 per runner for groups of
four or more. Forms must be turned in together.

Avgi earns all-district team honors
MONMOUTH — Western Oregon junior
Andy Avgi was named to the National Associ-
ation of Basketball Coaches Division II All-Dis-
trict Team on Monday.
The Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s
Player of the Year was named to the first
team.
Avgi helped lead WOU’s men’s basketball
program to the NCAA Div. II west region after
winning the regular season GNAC champi-

onship.
Avgi averaged a team-high 18.5 points per game. He also led
the wolves in field goal percentage after shooting 61.2 percent
from the field, and in total offensive rebounds with 70.
Central wins middle school title
BEND — Central’s eighth-grade girls basketball team won the
eighth grade Gold Middle School Championship, held March 7-
8. The team went 1-1 in pool play before defeating Sheldon 39-
32 in the semifinals and Churchill 33-32 in the championship
game.
Kaitlyn Dorn, Elizabeth Chavez, Sina Tapasa, Amelia Cantu,
Annika Riddell, Ellah Neville, Natya Gonzalez, Katelyn Trevino
and Faith Berry made up Central’s roster. Head coach Lisa Trevi-
no and assistant coach Kayli Fischer led the team.

Co-ed volleyball registration open
DALLAS — Registration is ongoing for Dallas’ co-ed volleyball
league. Registration runs through April 3, with the league run-
ning every Tuesday from April 7-May 12.
Cost is $175 per team or $22 per person.
Games will be held at LaCreole Middle School. Each team
must have eight to 10 players with at least three members of the
opposite gender.
