POLICE REPORT
Tree growers named to new board
KINGS VALLEY — Betty Malone of Kings Valley is one of 12 in-
dividuals selected by the United States Department of Agricul-
ture to serve on the board of directors for the new National
Christmas Tree Checkoff Program.
Malone, co-owner of Sunrise Tree Farm in Kings Valley, is part
of the Western Region representatives on the board.
Also named to the board was Mark Arkills, production man-
ager for Corvallis-based Holiday Tree Farms, which has Christ-
mas tree land holdings in Polk County.
Producers of more than 500 trees and importers are required to
pay the program’s 15-cent per tree assessment. Fees will be collect-
ed beginning with the 2015 harvest season. By law, checkoff rev-
enue can be used only for Christmas tree research and promotion.
My Mom’s Basement is expanding
MONMOUTH — My Mom’s Basement will celebrate its fifth
birthday at its Monmouth location, 303 Main St., by expanding
to the second half of the building.
The shop specializes in face-to-face games for people of all
ages. The expansion will allow more room for playing tourna-
ments as well as playing more games in the same room.
My Mom’s Basement provides company, snacks for purchase,
and expert instruction on games ranging from Magic, The Gath-
ering; Dungeons and Dragons; Pokemon; and games for young
children such as Cheeky Monkey.

Dallas doctor set to close practice
DALLAS — Dr. G.R. Wilson will be closing his 25-year practice
of family medicine in Dallas as of April 1.
If you have been a patient of Dr. Wilson and your new physi-
cian would like prior records, you will need to have the provider
send their patient-signed record release request to: P.O. Box 26,
Dallas, OR 97338.
Patients of Dr. Wilson trying to locate a new physician are ad-
vised to look under “physicians” in the phone book or call the
local medical society at 503-362-9669.
Senior living center hosting event
MONMOUTH — A ribbon cutting to celebrate Emeritus at
Heron Pointe becoming part of the Brookdale Senior Living
family will take place Friday at 2 p.m. at Brookdale Senior Living,
504 Gwinn St. E., Monmouth.
Tours of the facility and refreshments will be available at the
event sponsored by the city of Monmouth, Monmouth Business As-
sociation and Monmouth-Independence Chamber of Commerce.
