D a n a Goularte scored a team-high 10 points Goularte as WOU held a 44-40 lead with 3:56 remaining in the game. The Saints, however, scored eight unanswered points to take a 48-44 lead with six seconds left. Elise Miller hit a 3-pointer for the Wolves’ final points. “We got on the glass, gave ourselves second opportu- nities and put ourselves in position to win, but made some costly mistakes down the stretch,” Western Ore- gon coach Holli Howard- Carpenter said. WOU plays at Alaska Fair- banks on Thursday and Alaska Anchorage on Satur- day. BASEBALL OPENS SEA- SON: Western Oregon’s base- ball team opened its 2015 campaign with a trio of losses against the University of Cali- fornia-San Diego on Sunday and Monday. The Tritons won a doubleheader 4-0, and 8-3 on Sunday. Pitchers Darrien Moran and Clark McKitrick took the losses for the Wolves. Senior Matt Taylor went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs during the second game. The Tritons defeated WOU 12-5 on Monday. The Wolves closed out their four- game series with the Tritons Tuesday after press time.
