<1 ©WRISTl-A-iT HERALD. A FEW PLÖN FACTS FOR THE CONSIDERATION OF ALL WHO ARE INTERESTED IN CON GREGATIONAL SINGING. There are four nuaations of preeminent im.- portatw in the selection of a hymn-book for the uao of a coftgregation : . ‘♦‘his to i s Mea dw U t to uu pim —T: Tl'. -'Trrr ri.Lt N ri.^Tbi» i> . impnn ♦atioa, and can only be proiierly determined by those who are not only skilled in music, but who make it their busineta to drill congrega tion» in music. We have two brethren whb have l>e«<n conspicuous in thia work for year». Bro. J. P. P owell , the musical editor of the old Christian Hymnal, and the author of a l..^yL ..I Lay ’ himsolf to con^rei’aiional jmilic fur tne Tai Bro, J. Bath of these gentlemen pro- nounoe tlie “New Christian Hymn and Tune Book” the best book fur congregational us$ they liavo ever seen. Thia unequivocal endtirsefmeirt is continued by many ithar eminent teacher», but to add to such authority would l*e ueseless. This book is declared the most perfectly adapted tbi.t .-an be procured auvwhorc. . 3. T he S kill and E nterprise up thr P v »- II stier ».— The importance of this point, too often overlooked, will lie seen ou a moment’» retlection. If the publisher» are musicians, who are alive to all improvements in the publication I UH ..I. The plain proof of this is to be seen in the splendid of plates which have been made to adapt the >—.. ’‘New Christian Hymn and I'une-Book” toevery want of the congregations. Before the book was a month old, there was a demand for an edition for choirs and singing-school». The publishers instantly appreciated its importance, and have 1-- ' ii.-x.nt °------ uditiiHL wi|h -- _____ A,____. . ii^ni ru dimeute »au rtLihe?'- •<> meet thia want. GTsttUL U se of the B oor —'I i» a very important matter whether the book to he cboaeu is in general use or uot. We are happy to be able to say that »he sale of the “ New Christiau Hymn aud Tuue-Book,” since ite in troduction list August, haa been—in the teeth of an opposition acknowledged by its most frantic enemies to have been almest unanimous on the part nf the pres-» fifty per eenL gcaater than firat crtSe bfiok which these iatpeve ad ad vocated. This fact, in favor of a book pushed solely on its merit», tells the whole story. A book that out-ells another of acknowledged merit by fifty par cent, when almoat the entire press fa combined in strevnou» »npport of the book outsold, is a book that it will do to adopt. Within -ix bninths, from Cinciuuati alone ye supplied m«re than 350 churches, not to meu- tiou the large numlier supplied from 8t. Lout» and other eftie». It is In use in mere than 100 congregations in Ohio; in more than 75 in In diana: in Illinois more than 40 congregation» have been suppliedjrom Cincinnati, and manv more frein M. Ixraw. whito-Tfiffilcrwry ■wth'i» have been shipjied to every State. 30.000 copies art in ns®, in more than 500 churches. So far as rtpi 1 and general adoption is concerned, no book can equal it. 4. C heipnks ».— There is no book, of similar ex elfeHce of make, that presume» to compete with the prices of the “ New Christian Hymn and Tune-Book.” Not to mention the fact that the low prices at which other books can now be had is due solely to the low price of this, it is a fact that the only books that make the slightest approach to these price», while they have only 5j>er. cent, more hytnu». are sold at prices from 25 to 3*1 per cent, higher. This book is, then, from 20 tv 25 per cent, cheaper than any other book in the market. Aud this fact alone, when we consider that somo 5,000 or 6,00 J churches must be supplied with books, is an immeuae ar gil moat in its favor. If no more than two dozen li:^ks,are suHte.fiucksdxjJXvfeJ t. makes a differ ed e of 512,800 ! The demandTor cheap books is n > trifling matter. This book has been pre- purt-d on the motto: “Good enough for any: cneap enough for all.” W have thus .show:» that four of tbomost im- p->rt;int comsideratious point to the “New Chris tian Hymn arid Time-Book” as tAc book for gen eral »ioption.
