A. W E R M A N , O F B A L T I M O R E , S A Y S :
‘H O M E for friendless dogs has been opened in Chicago under the genera?
tutelary protection of Mrs. Charles A. W hite, a noted canine lover of the
'W indy City. It is Mrs. W hite’s belief th at large numbers of persons would
give a good, faithful canine a home, if such a dog could be supplied to them at
sm all cost. Those having dogs to d is u s e of, it is believed, will now’ bring them
to the home instead of turning them adrift, or killing them, and the persons who
w ant a dog can have their w ants supplied. In this way the home will be a sort
of exchange. B ut in addition the home will be a boarding place for valuable
and pedigreed canines, w’hose owners w’hen traveling cannot take them along.
Fancy stalls will be a t th e disposal of these dogs and medical treatm ent will al
ways be available. The money paid for the board and care of these doggish
aristocrats will go far tow ard m aintaining th eir poorer and erstwhile “ friend
less” brethren, and the balance will be made up by private contributions by indi
viduals and dog clugs.
And now th a t “ friendless” canines are to be taken care of it is hoped th at
someone may have the additional charity to provide for friendless and homeless
children. A fter nil. if these dog lovers of Chicago come to think of it, children
are not so very inferior to dogs. T he M aster said. “Suffer little children to come
unto me. for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” I t is not believed th at there
will be much inquiry about dogs on the last day
