T h e M ackay mausoleum In Greenwood
Cemetery, Brooklyn, In which the body
o f the late m illionaire now rests, was
completed tw o years ago and is one
o f the most elaborate structures o f the
kind In the United States. Its designer
was a Kentuckian and Its cost was
$300,000.
A large granite cross sur­
mounts the building, and at each cor­
ner of the roof there is a life size fig­
ure. The mosaic work o f the marble
Hoor and ceiling Is elaborate, and the
interior Is In the form o f a chapel, with
an altar.
Electric lights around the
celling are lighted autom atically by
the opening o f the bronze doors o f the
mausoleum. There are 21i crypts for
bodies in the building.
The body o f Mr. M ackay's son, John
W . Mackay, Jr., who was killed in
France in 181)5, was placed in the mau­
soleum soon after its completion, and

has been resting In one o f the crypts,
pending the erection o f a D aly fam ily
vault. The hotly o f Mr. M ackay was
placed In the crypt directly under the
altar In the mausoleum.
