They have uncovered and are steadily grinding away on a large body of very rich free-milling ore taken from one of the upper levels that equals any ever before discovered in this rich mine. The owners are reticent about the value of the discovery and the out put of the mill, but enough is known to justify the claim that the mill has seldom if ever been oc cupied night and day on a richer body of ore than at present. The new calm shaft has arrived am] the full capacity of the mill will be utilized as soon as it can be placed iu position when the out put of the mills will be doubled. P o r t l a n d , July 2 9 . — Evidence has come to light showing that Harry Tracy began his plans to escape from the penitentiary at Salem im mediately after his incarceration. The criminal cunning of the man was never fully appreciated by the prison officials. This is easily e x plained by the fact that although he was known to be a desperate man, his record for breaking out of prison in Ylontnna and Colorado was at that time unknown. Tracy’s wife lived in Portland when he nnd Ylerrill were sentenced to the penitentiary for buglary in this city, and it was through her that the convict tried to secure guDs and tools >vith which to escape. Mrs Tracy is the sister of Dave Merrill. She is thought to have given TI ip Best P r e s c r ip tio n f o r M a la r ia , the convicts some assistance, but Chills and Fevers, is Grove’ s Taste the first appeal from Tracy to send less Chill tonic.
