in the yards o f the Sugar Pine
Lum ber Company in this city. It
destroyed the entire stock of sugar
and white pine, consisting o f three
and a half million feet and one mil
lion feet of manufactured stock.
The com pany’s factory building,
which was one o f the largest if not
the largest o f its kind on the coast,
was totally destroyed together with
its valuable machinery. The fire
spread to the largo wooden ware
house building which was also con
sumed. It was a brick veneered
structure and was used also for an
office. It also destroyed the sash
and door factory o f Williams Bros,
had its sou rcoof lumber supply from
the com pany’ s yards.
The origin o f the fire is a mystery.
A strong wind was blowing and the
fire department was powerless to
check the progress o f the flames.
The Sugar Pine Lum ber yards are
owned by the Booth-K elley Lumber
company and the loss to the firm is
estimated at $70,000, which insur
