Hiram H ill is a sheepshearar r e
siding at Burns. He and others in
his line of work indulged in a horse
race in the W ild Hcrse country. The
horse he rode, possibly from the in
fluences of the place, got wild
enough to run away with Hiram.
He collided with a post while in
transit and broke his leg.
The Democratic State Convention
has met, and done its work with
speed, and much credit is due it.
The ticket put forward is a good
one, reflecting much good judgment
on the whole. The work to elect
now begins, and with united action
a considerable part, if not all, can be
elected, But be that as it may, sure
it is that not in years has there been
so bright a prospect to do something
as there now is.

ICRIRE FOR THE LEADER £
N e w Y o r k , April 1 6 . — As a result
of E E Harriman’s extended trip to
the Pacific Coast it is rumored in
W all street that there will be a fur
ther consolidation of the railroad
lines composing tho Harrimnu sys
tem.
The rumor goes so far as to be in
some quatters a positive announce
ment that all the lines west of the
Rocky Mountaing will be operated
from somo central point, making tho
operating headquarters of tho system
at either Salt Lake or Ogden.
This, it is said, involves merely
maintaining nominal general offices
to satisfy legal requirements and su
pervise steamship connections at Pa
cific Coast terminal points, such as
San Francisco, Cal., for the Southern
Pacific, and Portland, Or., for the
Oregon Railroad, but tke executive
force and chief operating center will
be established at a more central
point.
Men well informed in regard to
the Harriman properties generally
agree that this means the abolish
ment of several expensive offices and
salariod positions among tho various
branches of the system, and it is
spoken of as a long step toward e f
fecting economical management of
this great transcontinental chain.
