At the last session of the legisla*
lature a new law was past in regard
to the collection of taxes, which law
took effect on December 1st, 1901,
and in substance is as follows;
1 If you pay vour taxes on or be
fore March 15th you will be allowed
a rebate of three per cent.
2 If you pay your taxes between
March 10th and up to and includ
ing the first Monday in April, there
will not be any rebate and neither
will there be aoy penalty or inter
est added.
3 If your taxee are not paid on
or before the first Mouday of April,
they will become delinquent, when
there wili be added a penalty of 10
percent, and the tax will also draw
interest at the rate of 12 per cent
per annum in addition to the penalty.
4. If you pay ono half of your
taxes on or before the first Monday
in April, then the remaining half
may run up to and including the first
Monday in October following; but
if the last half of tax due is not paid
by the first Mouday of October, it
becomes delinquent and there will
be added to such balance, a penalty
of 10 per cent, and in addition, such
balance w'ill bear interest at the rate
of 12 per cent per annum from the
first Monday in April until paid.
5 On all personal property taxos
if one-half is not paid on or before
the first Monday in April, the law
compels the sheriff to levy upon and
collect the same after May 1st honce
to prevent a lovy upon personal
property aftor May 1st it will be
necessary for ono half to bo paid ns
above stated.
fi The law compels the sheriff to
sell all lands on which taxes have
not bcon paid, and that such sales
shall not be held later than Murch
1st of the year succeeding the year
in which the tax levy is made.
7 The proporty will bo sold, to
tho person bidding the lowest rate
of interest, and certificates will be
issued therefor, and deeds given to
such property sold, unless redeemed
within three years from tho dato of
such sales.
The 1901 assessment rolls will be
received at
the Sheriff’s Office
March 1st, 1902. Any
written
enquiries regarding 1901 taxes re
ceived prior to that dato will be filed
aud promptly nttended to as soon as
the books aro open for payments.
In making enquiries as to amount
of taxes, if possible, give to whom
the property is assessed and descrip
tion of the same.
