give them a holiday e ith e r on Sunday
o r on any o th er day on which th e ir fel­
low workm en g en erally a re also a t
leisure. On any day except Sunday,
the workm en say, there is nothing to
do except to sleep all day o r go to
saloons.

Deadwood, S. D. — One thousand
men are fighting fo rest fires in the
Black H ills south of here. Fanned by
a stiff wind the fires have destroyed
m illions o f fe e t o f th e best tim b e r in
the hills, located about 60 m ilks south
o f this c ity , and much m ore will be
burned before the flames can be
checked.
Supervisor Im es, in charge of 250
fire fighters, reported th a t th e fire is
w orking its way w est and is w ithin
tw o m iles o f P ringle, a village in Cus­
te r county and th ree m iles south of
Mayo in th e sam e county.
The fire in the northern hills is
practically under control and a train
load of fire fighting tools and a large
num ber o f experienced rangers are to
be sent to th e southern p a rt of the dis­
tric t.

through fo rests in which th ere was
b u t little snow last w in ter and the
ground and tim b er are extrem ely dry.

OUTLAW MURDERS TWO MORE
John Tornow, of Wynootchee Co.,
Again Kills Pursuers.

ing the outlaw . Quingley fired seven
tim es a t Tornow and then fled w ithout
learn in g w hether th e outlaw was
wounded. The deputy believes, how­
ever, th a t he wounded the outlaw .

Caucus Cuts Off One Luxury and
Aims at Another.
350,000 MEN ARE ON STRIKE

have been accustomed to splash luxur­
iously in the fine b ath s in the senate
office building will splash th ere no
m ore. The big baths, by ord er of the
D em ocratic caucus o f the senate, have
been locked up and th e bath a tte n d ­
an ts have had th e ir official heads cut
off. All th is in the way o f economy,
it was said.
The next move is to be a g ain st the
senate b arber shop, w here senators
are allowed to have th e ir w hiskers
trim m ed and th e ir h a ir c u t free of
charge. The b a rb er shop m ay be con­
tinued, but each senator will have to
pay for his own shave o r h aircu t.

V andervelde, the Socialist leader, who
declared th a t 870,000 men w ere now
involved in the general strik e in Bel­
gium fo r manhood suffrage.
The p re m ier’s rem arks seemed to be
m ade off-hand, and his e stim a te cannot
be regarded as official.
