Woman's Club Annual Meeting

the hall at 10:30 a. m- Sunday, the

the Presbyterian church where the
Rev. A . S. Mason will deliver the
Memorial services. We

Confederate Veterans, Indian War
Veterans and Spanish War Veter­
ans, the Militia Company and gen­
eral public to join us in this service.
The annual business meeting of
the Womans Club was held last
Saturday and was well attended,
the following named officers being
elected for the ensuing year: Mrs.
Kditb Silsby, Pres., Mrs. M argue­
rite Johnson, Vice Pres., Mrs.
Maude Shinn, Sec., Mrs. ('.race
Cruson, Corresixmding Sec,, Mrs.
Minnie Miller, Treas. It was vot­
ed not to have a limited club mem­
bership rule and arrangements and j
plans were discussed for the an­
nual picnic o f the club which will I
be given soon. The ladies voted f
their hearty thanks to the mayor, |
city council, business men, local
newspapers and the general public
‘for the interest shown and encour­
agement and substantial aid given
to the W om an’ s Club in its effort
to secure a public library in this
city.
Mr. J. Adams Puffer, director of
the Beacon Vocational Bureau of
Boston, who is noted as an expert
on problems concerning the grow­
ing boy, has been secured for the
faculty of the summer session of
the Oregon Agricultural College
this year.
During the first three weeks of
the session, which continues from
June 18 to July 26, Mr. Buffer will
deliver a series of lectures on t>oy
problems and the treatment of de­
linquents, and will conduct con­
ferences on similar topics. As he
has a wide experience in this field,
having acted as vocational ooun
seller for, boys in an industrial
school and studied the subject
while a probation
officer
he
will lie able to give the teachers
material help in the guidance of
the boys and girls under their
charge. As has visited the lead­
ing industrial schools of the United
States and England, and has con ­
ducted a summer camp for boys,
addition to teaching exjierieuce in
country schools,
high schools, j
and reformatories. He has lectur- |
ed in many of the large universities
and colleges of the country, as |
well as at normals, ebautauquas |
and conventions.

ness.
Crops are looking fine in this lo­
cality.
There is to be a basket social at
London, given bv the Loudon
school. It will take6place on the
evening of May 31 st, and the e x ­
ercises will be held in the London
hall over the Banton store. A good
time is assured all who come.

The Black Butte public school,
I. I-. Rowe teacher, closed a two-
months’ term last Friday. The
forenoon was spent in exam ina­
tions and reviewing. At noon all
spread their luncheons on the grass
in the shade which is so abundant

pies, cakes, sandwitches and other
delicacies too numerous to ment ion

tions, songs and compositions was
rendered by the pupils, after which
