Cottage Grove has a record for $136,41« spent on new buildings the past eight months. Five new brick blocks, ‘>2 residences, a Bap tist church, and eight miles of graded streets is the record for 1909. Four new brick blocks, a German Lutheran church, and pavement on the principal business street is the program for 1910. The number of new residences and blocks of concrete sidewalk cannot be computed. Many are going up now. There are two good high school buildings. There is a gen erous spirit of progress and rivalry among business men and citizens, that each shall do his part, and the strongest community spirit manifested by any western Oregon town. The Cottage Grove spirit is invincible. They have set out to conquer non progress!vism among themselves, weeding out the knock er, putting live men to the front, and using every resource of credit and taxation to build a city beauti ful by the present generation, with out waiting for the slow processes of nature. They realize that a city is an artificial creation and not a matter of municipal vegetation.
