HENDERSON Habit Back LOCAL AND PERSONAL F. W. BENSON IS OREGON'S GOVERNOR Corsets ¿ n Secretary of State Benson is to day the third governor that Oregon has had in the last three days. Chamberlain held the office up to about 9 o'clock Saturday morning at which time Mrs. Shelton became “ governess” of the great and only state that ever had that kind of a ruler. “ Governor Shelton” held down the position until 10:10 Mon day morning, when Secretary of State F. W. Benson, accompanied by the officials of tit«.* secretary's office walked into the big room across the hall from the former lo cation and took the oatli of office as governor of the state. Chief Justice Moore of the supreme court officiated, and every official and employe at the state house was present. The new governor look the oath as though it agreed with hint, and received the con gratulatious of all present and none were warmer or more heartily sincere than those of the retiring j governor, Mrs. C. B. Shelton. Governor Benson seemed in e x cellent health and there is n o ! shadow of doubt but that he will | fill out the term and put in many years here below, after all as the stories of his ill health are largely i hot air. It is stated “ Pat” McArthur is| to be his private secretary, which all of Pat’s friends hope to see true, but there is* a little hiatus in affairs that prevents McArthur’s appointment. Under the constitu tion McArthur cannot hold two offices of emolument. If he was made private secretary it would re quire a special election to name his successor, and on top of this it would require twenty days notice for calling the special session. I li the meanwhile, McArthur, while he may be acting private secretary, cannot draw salary as such. Gov. Benson is still secretary of state and chairman of all the adminis trative boards, upon which he votes, as governor and secretary of state and will draw both salaries, being $5<XX) and $4500, respective ly. “ FRO NT LACED h e front laced models arc the t are culmination of the latest and best ideas in corset fashion. They re model the figure, giving it a perfectly moulded back, giving it lines of grace and symmetry and the long, ta pering curves which are so artistically beautiful. They reduce the full figure, giving it the flattened front and slender hip effects. They are absolutely hygienic and have the endorsement of the leading physiciaus and dressmakers. We call special at tention to the model illustrated which is made in two lengths, high bust, for the tall figure, and medium bust, for the shorter waisted stout figure. This model is extremely long over the back and hips- The extra lacing in the back from the waist-line down i>ermits an absolutely perfect adjustment over the back and assists further in keepiug the hips in perfect subjection, thus giving the so-called hipless figure. We carry the front laced corsets in a varied line of materials at prices ranging from $2.50 to $12. We cordially invite the ladies of our city and vicinity to visit our corset depart ment and inspect these most exquisite models. Consultation and fitting free. T Rees-Wallace Co.
