A Matter Needing Attention.
T he city council should m ake
some provisions to drain the west
side public school grounds, which
for the past week or more have
been nearly one-half flooded by
th e filling up of the open ditch
from the school grounds to the Ad
veutists church on W all street
W ater from this ravine not only
floods the school grounds, but
nearly all of th a t part of town
lay in g between the west side
school an d the river. If the open
ditch from the school to the Ad
ventists church were dug a foot
an d a half or two feet deeper it
would carry all of th a t volume of
w ater from the M cFarland hill to
Silk Creek an d thereby save the
residents of th a t part of town
m uch annoyance.

tim e to high school work. They
have agreed to allow $35 each per
auuiiui for the first 20 scholars;
$50 each per annum for the second
20; an d $20 i>er scholar per annum
for all over 40 attending high
school. T hese am ounts will be
paid only on average daily a t
tendance, projrerly certified to,
for the year. T his gives the
sm aller districts an equal show
with the larger one and seems to
be satisfactory to all.

Experience.
