in there performance Saturday
evening won a fair measure of
success, it lieing out of the usual
order of girl entertainment. The
grand first part exhibited an en
ticing circle of radiant young
buds in the place of the old-time
burnt cork artists. However, the
lilliputiaiis were possessed of good
voices aud their localized gags
and conundrums at the expense of
the city officials and private citi
zens were timely and cleverly
’ ’dubbed.” The olio had just the
suggestion of a plot to string the
incidents upon it and many of the
specialties and song hits bore the
real label on them as clean, dainty
and absolutely new.

COUNCIL WILL REPAIR
MAIN STREET BRIDGE
The regular monthly session of
the city council was held Monday
evening. A petition for a street
light on Taylor street and also
three lights east of the railroad
was referred to the light committee.
The recorder was instructed to
notify the city treasurer that all
moneys’ paid in on street assess
ments should be used in the pay
ment of warrants issued for the
improvement of these respective
streets.
Mr. Shepardson was granted
permission to connect with the
water pipes over in east Cottage
Grove to expedite his building
operations, he having commenced
work on a new residence on his
lots in Georgetown addition.
The bridge committee reported
that material had lieen ordered for
the repair of the Main street bridge
including two main stringers and
repair work will commence at
once.

L. F. Wooley, the contractor,
surprised his many friends Sunday
by dressing up in his very liest—
boiled shirt, white vest aud other
happy toggery and then taking a
plunge in the cool waters of the
Coast Fork. Some say he went
fishing and fell in, but the only
thing found in his possession was
a garden rake, so this exploded
the fishing theory. The facts are
Frank's young son dropped his
sire's best new handsaw in a deep
pool in the river a few days ago
while attempting to saw a limb
from a tree on the bank. So the
elder Wooley equipped with a
garden rake was fishing for the
saw when the limb broke to which
he was holding ami he was precip
itated head first into the cool,
placid waters of the river, receiv
ing a thorough ducking. The
next time he goes fishing for a
handsaw in the mill pond he will
procure a divers suit.
