There are a guoil many rucking

most remarkable Is In the Andes of
South America. Often persons sitting
beneath it are overcome with the Idea
that it is about to fall upon them. One

Earthquake and Arc partially de

city hall, but the great dome was left
standing, with its steel frame bereft

picturesque ruin. Engineers decided
that the dome of the city hall was
perfectly solid. Nevertheless the su
pervisors voted that It would be un
wise to rebuild the city hall as a
whole without rebuilding the dome, so
the latter must come down.
This
means that two thirds of the great
structure must be razed, the east wing
of tin* city hall having now l>een re
constructed. It is expected that the
work of demolition will cost $100,000
and will keep 50-0 men and 200 teams
busy for throe months. About 80,000
cubic yards of debris will have to be
removed, and this will represent
