VOL. XIX.
NO. 50
COTTAGE GROVE, OREGON, MARCH 27, 1908.
An Appeal to the Business Men.
Few of the business men o f Cot
tage Grove seem to realize what a
struggle the "Superlative” , the
representative paper of their high
school is having, to meet its ex-
l>enses. It cannot be that they do
not understand the circumstances
or have had no opportunity to show
their interest, since their advertis
ing solicitor has personally inter
viewed every business man of Cot
tage Grove. What, then, can be
the matter?
Consider, if you will, ,the ad
verse circumstances under which
they are laboring. The Cottage
Grove high school has the smallest
enrollment of any such school in
the state that publishes a paper
and with one possible exception, it
is the only high school paper whose
expenses are not met, partly .or
wholly, by a special appropriation
o f the school board.
Although some business men
have supported them faithfully, to
their own advantage and credit, if
the students were to depend entire
ly upon the representatives o f Cot
tage Grove industry, the paper
would now have been discontin
ued. They don't however. They
are now giving much valuable
time and labor to assure a success
ful Basket social, which is to be
given early in April.
Only recently the business men
advertised liberally, in a pamphlet
of no greater influence or circula
tion than the "Superlative.” A l
though this is no charity scheme,
along with the direct benefits of
their advertising, t h e Cottage
Grove
boosters” would do un
limited good for tlje reputation of
their school and town, not only at
home but abroad.
In the combined April and May
issues, forming the Commencement
number, the business men o f Cot
tage Grove have their last oppor
tunity o f showing their true inter
est in their high school.— S t u d e n t .
