Iustead of the car shortage con dition being improved by reason of agitation and legislation, so far as this community is concerned it is now in a more serious condition than it has been at any time before. The paper mill which handles about 200 cars of manufactured product annually, have bad sufficient cars of late to relieve the situation sotne- what there. The sawmill here and about a dozen others in the foot hills stem to be facing a car famine which threatens to close many of them down. There is now 650,000 feet of lumber on the yard of the mill here in Lebanon and iu a few weeks it will reach a million feet in the yard, all awaiting cars to be carried to a maiket demanding it at once. Not a fo of lumber has been brought in liom the dozen sawmills above this city. In a few weeks the whole winter’s cut Irom these mills will begin to come into Leb anon for rail shipment at the late of 25,000 to 45.000 teet dally. All these mills must have cars to get the lumber to its buyer or shut down. To close means several hundred ineu roust cease woik. This community is friendly to the railroads and are liberal patrons, and are not demandiug anything which will be injurious to the roads. They are willing to pay liber»lly for c>rs to carry their products. But these cars they de mand. — Lebanon Criterion. Vaguina will once more become a port of entry and departure for vessels plying in the coastwise trade after nearly twenty years of com parative cpiieseence. By the first of June at the latest, it is expected that the Curtiss Lum ber Company of Mill City, will have its first cargo of lumber to go by the water route, ready for sh pment to San Francisco. The Curtiss Lumber Company has chartered the steam schooner Leggett, hith erto plying between Fnrtlaud and San Francisco, to transport its lum bar output to California points and the luinagement will commence shipping lumber from Mill City to Vaguina Bay at once to load the big ship. The boat is expected to arrive in Vaguins the .utter portion of this mouth to take on the lum ber cargo. The Leggett is one ot the largest steamers now used in the coastwise lumber hade, and has a capacity uf 1 ,/it 10.000 feet. To complete the cargo it is estimated will regime about eighty carloads of lumber.
